Urises are mute. They communicate only through their bill clattering. They are soarers and gliders, and they have rigid postures. They always know where their children are and protect them with their lives. They are able to shepherd the souls of the unborn from the planes to the prime realm, sending them to their proper bodies. Because of this, anyone who kills a uris will have incredibly bad luck the rest of their lives.

Urises are migratory, dwelling in shallow wetlands where they lead quiet lives. They have reputations for being demanding and ruling their territories harshly, but they are merely very protective of their families. They often build nests in trees or on buildings, which they protect, especially from fires. Some urises are not monogamous, though most are. Those that aren't are loyal to nests rather than mates, and this is an accepted alternative. They live in vast, colonial extended families. They are also known to care for the elderly in their clans.
