Whistleblower

Those who expose the powers-that-be.

Cumdai

The Violet Grith only employs whistleblowers to cause trouble, but those they do are ones who are trained to perform, to draw from stories and wear a mask to hide what they are up to.

The Violet Grith wants to expose the law as inferior to the lore, and thus, they seek whistleblowers within the structures of law specifically. Cops, lawyers, judges, clerks, administrators, researchers, anyone within those halls is recruited with promises of fey power in exchange for information that will prove the law's corruption, inferiority, or flaws. Anyone who agrees to this is given a mask made of fey power, and while wearing it, they appear to be their old self. Meanwhile, their new self transforms and gains powers. They start with three of these and continue to gain more as they change over time:
  • Glowing eyes: their eyes glow and grant +3 read people (PRS).
  • Extended shadow: their shadow takes on a new shape that does not match their body, and they are able to wear it as a disguise, +3 deception.
  • Metallic veins: their veins flow with molten silver, giving them +3 vs. wound.
  • Fiery hair: their hair becomes faeriefire, allowing them to glamour once per day for 10 minutes.
  • Stone teeth: their teeth become dreamstone, allowing them to eat the dreams of the sleeping.
  • Fluid flesh: their flesh becomes more fluid and responsive, making it harder to stun them (+3 vs. stun).
  • Sky feet: their feet become lighter and they can levitate 6" off the ground at any time.
  • Frost breath: their breath becomes cold as the heart of winter, and if they breathe on anyone, the target suffers 8/14/20/26 frost damage.
  • Deadly keen: they can wail like a bean sith and kill their former allies within 30', power of 11 vs. AWA.
  • Living heart: they gain a second heart, making them harder to kill.
These changes occur as they continue the performance of their old life in order to gather more information for the Violet Grith. Once the performance ends, they lose their mask but retain their new form and powers. Most stay with the Violet Grith, though many wish they had their old form back, and they seek to regain it from the Violet Grith by finding other work for them.

Nasikha

Whistleblowers are a critical part of the Green Grith's network, and those who do so are often moved by a deep sense of honor that gives them powers of the elemental energies of the sun.

When someone working for a major industrial company or other polluter decides to betray the business to protect the environment, if their motivation is driven by honor, they have a rare opportunity to draw power from the sun itself. When someone in this position comes to the Green Grith, they interview them carefully about their motivations, and if they find the right conditions exist, they test them. There are ten tests - all taking place under daylight, from dawn till dusk - and if all are passed, the nasikha is given the task of spreading the information they have leaked and "bring it into the light of day".

In order to survive while doing this, they gain a few powers granted them by the sun itself:
  • Word of daylight: if they speak the truths they are spreading under the light of day, they gain +6 to persuading people to believe it, so long as it is true.
  • Honorable heart: if they continue their work and persuade up to ten people, the honor that motivates them will begin to empower them by giving them +1 per person persuaded each week to any stat they want, with a max of +6.
  • Dawning mind: anyone who believes the truths they share can be persuaded further to fight the polluters and other companies by the touch of the nasikha if they time it correctly.
  • Golden soul: if they manage to get the company they worked for to reverse their ways, even minorly, their soul will glow with golden sunlight and give them protection from infernal attacks on the soul.
Any failure to live up to their new code of honor and truth will result in the powers reversing and the sun burn them to ash.

Sibilier

Most whisteblowers who work for the Blue Grith are one-and-done, but some engage either in deep cover or stick around for security or so they can later testify. Others reveal their information and then join the Blue Grith as a protectee. Many of them gain magical powers from revealing the truth.

Sibiliers are whistleblowers who gain power from the truth. They gain this power by spreading the truth they are revealing, and by living honestly thereafter.

The art of a sibilier is more than simply telling the truth. It is a dedication to being truthful after a life of working for the enemy. It is avoiding not just lying, but as many forms of deception as possible, and being forthright and earnest in all communication. It means not omitting inconvenient information, not manipulating, not rephrasing, not engaging in spin. It also does not mean "brutal honesty," but rather, compassionate honesty; that is to say, sibiliers do not wield the truth to hurt others when at all possible, nor do they engage in lies to protect others, but they engage in truth that exposes harms and helps those it has harmed. If they fall back into a life of deception or renounce the truth, they lose their powers.

They must remain truthful for at least seven months after their initial whistleblowing. They do not engage in dishonest honesty if they wish to retain their powers - they don't seek loopholes, literalness, or lies of omission. They are honest, sincere, and truthful. They will not lose powers if they speak an unknowing lie, but they are truthful to the best of their mortal ability. To gain these abilities, they must also repent for their past lies or support of deceptions.
  • Revelation: their whistleblowing is an act of revelation, and everytime they speak the truth of it, they are believed, so long as they maintain their honesty. If they come across other deep deceptions, if they reveal them, they will spread quickly.
  • Sense lies: if they hear someone speak a lie, it rings in their ears. They effectively have +3 to read people rolls when hearing someone speak.
  • Trustworthy aura: they gain an aura that makes others trust them more easily, giving them a +3 to persuasion.
  • Eidetic memory: anything they read, they can remember perfectly, assuming it was not a lie.
  • Invoking truth: they may, once every seven days, invoke the power of their revelation to force someone to tell them one true thing.
