Molls

Mistresses of crime. A moll is usually the woman companion of a criminal, a conspirator and collaborator, a complicit woman. The term is used here to refer to anyone of any gender who is part of the Grith because of a romantic or sexual attachment who becomes a supporter-in-crime. Mobwives, mistresses. They have a lot in common with sensualists, conspirators, and witches.

Bing

In the Red Grith, bings are usually connected to the gangsters or other combat-oriented roles, but they can be with any Grith member. A bing is a Red Grith moll who is taught blood magic by the other molls. They learn their magic carefully and with guidance, but they do not study humors, anatomy, and bodily science like other wielders of blood magic. Instead, they gain it via blood rites that give them special senses and specific magical abilities.

Most spend a lot of time as molls with no magic before they are trusted to take on Grith work and magic. When they are trusted, they are initiated with meticulous care and felt out so it is known if they will be able to handle the magic. If they are, they are shown how to wield it; if they don't faint at the sight of blood, they begin a little training. They are shown the use of needles, the power of blood, and the art of spilling it, controlling it, and wielding it. If they study enough, they learn the following abilities:
  • Sanguine flush: the bing can spend a little of their own blood to bring a flush of blood to the face of those around them, intensifying their sanguinity - giving them more social skill.
  • Red stitching: the bing can stitch a wound with their magical needles, bringing more blood to the site to encourage quicker healing.
  • Transferral spell: the bing can transfer their own blood into another person and cause different effects depending on their own species.
  • Precision needle: the bing can insert a needle in a precise spot to cause major bleeding.
  • Circle of blood: the bing can form a circle of their own blood to create a protective shield of magical power.
Bings often use the blood of their partners spilled in combat to fuel some of their spells.

Feathergirl

In the Green Grith, molls are usually the romantic or sexual partners of other criminals who want to get involved. They are taken under the wing, pun intended, of the other Green Grith molls, who have been taught special magic that allows them to communicate with birds.

Feathergirls do not go as in depth into their bonding with birds as a tierist (see baiters) does with their animals, but they do get a special bird to connect with and bond with. This bird is usually a gift from their lover in the Grith or from the other molls. The feathergirl is taught by the other molls to spend time with, learn from, befriend, and support their bird, eventually learning to mimic the bird's voice and characteristics. If they are found worthy and are a friend to nature - if they are in line with the principles of the Green Grith - they will be given a feather (hence their name).

Once they have their feather, their bird tests them with a little game of hiding things. If they find what is hidden and are careful with it, they are known to be a friend, and they are given special abilities:
  • Birdsong: they can sing and speak to birds and be understood, and their partner can understand the bird as well.
  • Whistle talk: they can whistle like a bird and send warnings long distance.
  • Featherstep: if they are wearing their feather, they can move with more speed, float slightly, fall slowly, and teleport a limited number of times.
  • Pretty plumage: if they are wearing their feather, they will be able to be more seductive or less threatening in the eyes of their enemies.
  • Bird swarm: they can, once per month, call upon a swarm of birds to help them.
Feathergirls work alongside their partners in any of the tasks they are up to.

Frust

Frusts are molls in the Blue Grith who are brought into a special community of partners, close friends, confidants, and other supporters who help Blue Grith members by tapping into their matrilineal ancestry for magical protections. Frusts are usually those who are too close to a Blue Grith member to not be complicit in their work, and thus deemed in need of extra protection. Thus, they are invited in and taught the magic of connecting to ancestors.

The frust started as a sisterhood that expanded to other genders, but the focus remains on either matrilineal ancestors or on the ancestral line of frusts themselves as a found family. To tap into this, one must be taught to reject patriarchal norms and beliefs, understand their community, and be in line with the principles of the Blue Grith. If they are, they are given special drink that lets them see into their past and ancestry, and there, they are shown by other frusts to find an ancestral spirit who will be their primary guide. Once they have a guide, they are able to speak to the guide and see their ancestors all the way back before the Fall (the rise of patriarchy), giving them access to their celestial ancestors. They then learn how to wield their magic and gain certain abilities:
  • Drawing from the line: the frust can draw from the skills of any of their ancestors.
  • Wisdom of Lilith: the frust can ask a question of their oldest accessible ancestor.
  • Armor of Phryscara: the frust can create an armor of celestial energy from their second oldest accessible ancestor.
  • Matrilineal might: the frust can draw raw strength from their ancestors.
  • Many voices of the past: the frust can speak with the power of the voices of their ancestors.
Frusts are part of the Committee for Support.

Pio

Pios are molls of the Violet Grith who are taught the secret fey musicks that allow them to communicate and support their partners in crime, usually from the other pios. It takes quite a long time for a moll in the Violet Grith to be trusted to join or learn their secrets, but once they are, they are tested thrice - once with a secret, once with a mystery, and once with a truth. If they pass these tests, they are allowed to hear the secret songs; if they are worthy, they will remember the song and sing it in their sleep. If this happens, they wake up knowing the songs, and they are allowed to join the Violet Grith properly.

Once they join, they are then taught how to wield the magic of the songs. Each song must be sung properly and must be sung knowingly, and it must be sung twice - once awake, once asleep. If this is done, they gain the songs permanently:
  • Song of resonating: this song allows them to send messages to people far away.
  • Song of the unspoken: this song allows them to communicate secrets while others are listening.
  • Song of smiles: this song charms anyone who hears it.
  • Song of dancing birds: this song distracts and confuses those who hear it.
  • Song of good heart: this song gives strength and courage to those who hear it.
Pios are secret-keepers, singers, and lovers, but they often become very skilled at information gathering and seduction.
