Embezzler

White collar criminals stealing money from businesses.

Carisark

Those tempted to embezzle and engage in white collar crime who serve the Red Grith are rewarded with the power of magical contracts if they go to the Red Grith first. They are called carisarks.

There are two ways this goes. One is that someone working a white collar job decides to embezzle and comes to the Red Grith for help. The other is that the Red Grith sends an agent into a company with the intention of having them embezzle. Either way, the best of them learn to use magical contracts for their work.

The Red Grith trains their embezzlers and white collar criminals in the art of mercatism. This is the creation of magical contracts that allow for esoteric exchanges. To do this, a person must understand value. Real value. Objective value. Value as derived from both the objective utility of something and the subjective willingness of someone to pay or provide for it. This understanding must be inward and outward. Once understood, they must write a contract with themself that weighs their value against the power they seek, and imbue it with four parts of themself, an offering of their blood, of something of emotional value, of something they have learned, and of something they have experienced. These are their collateral, and any violation of the contract will take one of these from them.

To protect themself, they may make contracts with others. Their first contract will be with another mercator in the Red Grith, who will place their life against their loyalty to the Red Grith. The second contract will be with anyone they can find, but ultimately, their goal is to trick the company they are embezzling from to make a contract that will empower their embezzlement.

Otherwise, they can put anything into a contract, to gain almost any power, ability, skill, or trait. However, any violation of their contracts will cause them to lose all of their powers. If someone else captures and alters their contracts, the consequences can be dire.

Noxadian

The Green Grith employs various professionals to work at companies and steal from them, using elemental acid to alter documents, ledgers, and accounts.

Targeting major industrial companies for embezzlement schemes is a favorite soft terrorist tactic of the Green Grith. They find sympathetic professionals, clerks, accountants, and others who can fake their way into a company, and they train them in the use of elemental acid. Wielding it requires precision and care, deep study, and access to the appropriate materials - elemental acid and glass to carry it in. The Green Grith provides the latter two and the training for the former.

Wielding elemental acid requires the wielder to understand acids, to have a sincere respect for nature, and to test themselves ritually by burning parts of themselves with acid until it no longer affects them. Once they can do this - by building up resistance and communing with nature - they are able to wield it on reality itself, though to a lesser degree than someone who lives their life by elemental magic. Noxadians use it for a specific purpose and learn only certain magic:
  • Scour numbers: elemental acid applied to an account or ledger can alter the actual numbers in an account or vault by altering the document, scouring away certain numbers.
  • Burn record: completely destroying certain records will alter the state of a company to a certain degree.
  • Wash traces: evidence of tampering can be washed away with elemental acid.
Noxadians can only use these powers sparingly on a company without getting caught, so they often move from company to company to take a little bit at a time to fund the Green Grith.

Sulda

The Blue Grith lures in white collar workers to steal from major companies and fund their operations. They help them unionize workers in secret to gain powers in their task.

Suldas are workers at oppressive companies who embezzle from them in order to fund the Blue Grith. They gain support for their work - mundane and magical - by secretly unionizing the workers there.

A sulda must be sincere in their support for the union and the Blue Grith. They must organize the workers around them into unified action. They not only unionize to gain agency as workers and resist their own exploitation, they organize to change the entire company culture, purpose, and work. They engage in strikes, work stoppages, slowdowns, sick outs, and other forms of aggressive resistance to the company and owners and bosses. Disruptive acts of sabotage. Open rebellion. And all the while, the sulda supports them while pretending to be a good worker so they can rob the company and funnel moneys to the Blue Grith.

The more organized and active the workers become, the more magical energy is shared between them. The sulda becomes part of this system, gaining certain powers as long as the group remains organized.
  • Allied eyesight: they can see through the eyes of someone else in their union (if the other consents) at will so long as they are awake and within three miles of each other. If the other does not consent, the attempt will fail automatically. It cannot be forced.
  • Group empathy: they can sense the emotions of others in their union, with consent, if they are within visual range of each other, at a power of PRS+1. This helps them be there for one another.
  • Warning signal : all members of the union can let the others if they are in danger if they are within three miles of one another.
  • Rallying chant: if three or more members of the union chant together (holding action to chant together on the turn of the slowest), every other member of the union will be able to appear next to them if they are within three miles, no roll necessary.
  • Meticulous innoculation: the sulda can send silent messages to other members of the union if they are within 500' of them, giving them information on the bosses' next attacks.
  • Spread the wealth: the sulda can, while cooking the books, gain +3 to sleight of hand or other deception rolls if manipulating the numbers to give more money to the workers.
They are members of the Committee for Support.

Tirigumi

The lore has affect even in the ledgers of bankers and the books of businessmen, for they must use words as well as numbers, and words have a connection to the lore that some know well how to wield. The power of The Word is such that it may make the numbers dance.

Tirigumis are those in the Violet Grith trained in the use of the First Language. The First Language is an ancient language that has the magic of communication embedded in it. Tirigumis in Haenor do not grow up speaking it, but have fragments of it taught to them by the Violet Grith (who probably bought it from those enslaved from the part of the world it still lives in). They only know how to write it, not speak it, but the words they know have very specific effects, especially on ledgers and commercial records.

Thus, these are given to those who seek to embezzle on behalf of the Violet Grith. They pay for their magical knowledge by giving most of the money to the Violet Grith, but they must also swear fealty to the Violet Grith to prove worthy of it. If they betray the Violet Grith, they will lose the ability to communicate in any way - not by writing, by speaking, or by body language.

Once it is written, the First Language may not be undone. Therefore, they must be very careful when and where they write it.

The words they can write affect the reality the records they alter reflect. They can do the following to these records:
  • Improved understanding: they have two words that improve the reader's understanding of what they are reading. This is rarely used to alter a ledger, but it is often used to help those in the Violet Grith who cannot read to understand something.
  • Disrupted understanding: they can alter a record with a word that makes those reading it unable to understand what is written at all. This word is very dangerous, and they use it sparingly.
  • Delayed understanding: they can alter a record such that those reading it do not understand it for a fortnight.
  • Reversed meaning: they can alter a record such that its apparent meaning is reversed, and thus, the reality of it is reversed. They use this mostly to alter the direction money is moved around.
  • Shifted meaning: they can alter a record with a word that subtly makes a word mean something completely different without anyone noticing.
Other powers may be possible. Consult the GM.

They wield these words and letters to subtly alter ledgers and accounts to move money around and give to the Violet Grith.
