| Description | The zylthex stand about four feet tall. They have moss-like green fur all over their bodies, with clawed hands and feet, beady yellow eyes, and a pink, bony ridge that runs from their foreheads to their middle backs, like a mane of bone. Their snouts are vaguely ratlike, and their fangs are usually sparkling clear. The females have orange stripes of fur running from their eyes to their ears. |
| Procreation | With each other. Follows the mother with other thex. |
| Magic | One in a million have soul magic, one in five million have soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible, as is void. Faith is not uncommon. |
| Special Powers | The zylthex absorb surprise. In order to survive, they must hide away and spring out to shock people, attracting surprise with their bone-mane (called a conductive plate). If they are completely charged, they are able to grab the emotion instead of absorbing it. Female zylthex have the ability to see attentiveness if they close their eyes. Male zylthex have in childhood the ability to speak without being heard by others. They lose this ability in adolescence, but gain the ability to vanish completely once they are grown. The zylthex are immune to surprises. |
| Weaknesses | The zylthex die without emotional sustenance, but it must be natural, and they are susceptible to boredom. |
| Culture | The zylthex live in small families in quiet areas, waiting for victims. When they absorb surprise, it leaves the victim, and usually, they are able to escape without the victim understanding what just happened. They are very silly, and they tend to use their females to find victims, their children to coordinate an attack, and their males to exact it. They are rare and harmless, for the most part. Other forms of surprise also sustain them, but they are weaker than a short, sharp shock. |
