“Six foot six above sea level,
I grab the mic because I like to take you to another mental level,
Low power frequency radio modulation,
The big sound from underground, another pirate station.
We bring the truth to places truth is never heard before,
We bring the sound communication of our tribal war.
Dark vision fly by helicopters in the night,
Attempt triangulation of our station in the fight.”

—Michael Franti and Spearhead

The Messenger

Even before the first Eruptions, it was common for Human artists to channel their emotional energies into art. Some of them possess such a reservoir of emotional energy that they become superstars, usually controversial because of their emotional content (eg: a political message, a bad role model for children, or just generally upsetting the status quo with what they had to say). A Messenger Kaiju usually looks completely Human, though probably larger than life in some preternatural or supernatural way, such as being just a little too tall and handsome, or having eyes just a little too striking, or a physical flexibility that makes them look ethereal when they move. It is also not unheard of for a Messenger Kaiju to look not human at all, but to put on certain trappings of Humanity (a three piece double-breated suit, sunglasses, or an American flag shirt for instance).
When playing a Messenger Kaiju, your most likely touchstone characters will be young people trying to get attention through art, probably disaffected with "productive" conscious pursuits, or society in general around them. They are likely considered shiftless dreamers, lazy, unfocused, deadbeat, and have a hard time performing in school or at work. They like attention, and can thrive on it in sometimes unbelievable ways (eg: a Kaiju who can do anything he can make others around him believe he can do). The profession of a Messenger could be anything that lets them perform for attention. Examples tend to include politician (constant campaigning), lawyer (manipulation through speech), actor, performer, singer, musician, storyteller, professional celebrity, firebrand, rabble-rouser, cult leader, artist, spokesman, drifter, and many more.

Eruption:

The eruption of a Messenger Kaiju can actually be a wonderful, beautiful thing, or it can inspire any number of other emotions. It is always public and spectacular, but it is captivating, something you don't want to look away from. Unlike other subgenres who might only feed on fear and anger, the Messenger feeds on other primal instincts as well, like Bachanale frenzy, the joy of the moment, the wild rush of adrenaline, or the adoration of the crowd. There will be Humans fighting to silence the Messenger, on grounds that the Unconscious has no place in Conscious society, but the Messenger's friends and loved ones should be focused on catching him or her when he flies too high and runs out of energy. And he will. When a Messenger crashes, it is not uncommon for him to scramble to find another source of energy, possibly a destructive one: drugs, alcohol, wild unprotected sex, criminal activity, insane stunts, and possibly attempts to provoke fear and anger, among others. A Messenger Kaiju channels massive amounts of emotional energy, and can burn out if not careful. It is the job of those closest to the Messenger to make sure he can come down safely, and handle the energy responsibly.
Upon eruption, a Messenger sings. Whether he sings literally, or dances, or produces art, or gives a speech, or just says something extemporaneous into a microphone to change the world, the metaphor is he sings. And when it happens, you can't look away. The song is mesmerizing. It imparts his energy to all who are listening, alters their mood, changes the flow of their thoughts and feelings.
A Messenger Kaiju seeks resonance. They want their energy to resonate with the energy of their followers, and they do that by leading their followers into the high-energy state with them. They do so because the resonance heightens their own energetic state. In other words, they get high when they can lead others to get high with them. Pop-stars may do it with Bachanalian ecstasy of the performance, Politicians may do it with righteous anger or fear. Preachers may do it with spiritual fervor. Comedians may do it with laughter. The danger is that they will do more and more reckless things to achieve the resonant effect, and that the resonant effect will thereby take them higher than they can safely fall (for mundane examples, see: Elvis, River Phoenix, John Belushi). There might also be a danger to the followers, who may hurt themselves as well (See: Jim Jones). Both the followers and the Kaiju need an anchor point, so that they can survive the emotional high safely. This anchor point may be a loved one, a home, a set of values, a set of practices, or even just an object (See: Citizen Kane). As long as it tethers them to their consciousness so they can find their way back.
