The Cang once ruled the city, over 1800 years ago, and reigned for over 600 years before being overthrown, sometime around the Great Flood. When he was overthrown, he was put in a cang, a wooden yoke used for criminals, but he managed to escape. He moved underground, though it is said he was never able to remove the cang. He made it his name, hiding away his True Name, and running a criminal organization from the shadows.

It is said that anyone who removes the cang from his neck will be given half the treasures he has stolen over the centuries.
