“I understand you been runnin’ from the man
That goes by the name of the Sandman.
He rides the sky like an eagle in the eye
Of a hurricane that’s abandoned.”

—America

“What would a Brother look like, were he made of Mother’s raw fire, Her limitless potential? These Brothers and Sisters are to be treated with deference and respect.”

—Nibiru Yog-Sothoth

The Bogeyman:

A Bogeyman is a small, localized Kaiju eruption. The unconscious emotional power of a Bogeyman is not less than his full-sized counterparts, but his swath of destruction is usually far far narrower, as he only has the emotional energy of a few people to feed on. As a result, the horror of his attacks seem to be much greater, because the results are far more personal, and because, unlike with a full-scale Kaiju eruption, it is less likely to be seen from the outside. Someone dealing with a Bogeyman will not likely find much help from the disbelieving outside the area of effect.
A touchstone for a Bogeyman would most likely be someone with mental illness or other emotional instability. He needs help, but no one will listen to him. A scared child, a grieving widow/widower, someone with undiagnosed bipolar disorder, etc. Friends and family should endeavor to get him/her the help he/she needs and not ridicule, minimize, or disbelieve him/her. A touchstone for a Bogeyman is not as likely yet to have unlearned need without shame, and this is a vulnerable time when he/she might accidentally unlearn it. Friends and family should do everything they can to make sure the touchstone character can need without shame.
It should also be noted that, in modern cinema, a great many bogeymen find themselves actually prelude the eruption of a Queen, who is usually their touchstone. This particular dynamic is in fact the very formula for a slasher movie, where the "final girl" steps outside her kyriarchy-assigned role to access Primal energy without sanction and kick some ass. The liminality of the emerging/erupting Queen is a powerful source of energy for a Bogeyman, because, in that instant, the Queen is building herself (see "eruption" below), which is a powerful resonance with the Bogeyman. (examples: Sarah Connor, Kirstie Cotton, Nancy Thompson, Laurie Strode, Ellen Ripley, etc).

Eruption:

Upon eruption, the Bogeyman harvests. Collects. Gathers. The Bogeyman has the most specific unfulfilled need of all Kaiju. There is some particular energetic nutrient missing from his diet, and he craves this nutrient non-stop, like a pregnant woman who suddenly must have saltine crackers. In the art, this need is represented in metaphor by a particular "Focus," or taste the bogeyman has: Pinhead thrives on the pain of the wicked. In Africa, the Tokoloshe only eats the toes of his victims. Vampires only drink blood. The Nuckelavee, believe it or not, is not just vegetarian but in fact vegan, sucking the life out of all plants in his vicinity, and only attacking humans incidentally if they cross his path.
And much like the pregnant woman, who needs these nutrients to construct a little person inside her, the Bogeyman is pregnant with himself, constructing himself, making himself whole. The nutrients he seeks are building blocks, patches, cobbles, duct tape and super-glue to his being. Much like the True Form, he is ashamed to need, but unlike the True Form, it is not the content of the need that makes him ashamed. Tokoloshe couldn't care less that people know he eats toes. In fact, most Bogeymen seem proud of their reputation. What he's ashamed of is being incomplete, being half-formed. A Bogeyman could be anything, and they know it. And most of the time, they know what they want to be, just not how to get there. To help a Bogeyman, a friend must be able to help them build themselves, help them become what they need to be, and to help them achieve their nutrients and building blocks in a safe, healthy, and good way. A Bogeyman likes nothing better than to be treated like the being they want to be. When you find out what a Bogeyman wants to be, you will know the most intimate and central thing about him, and if you treat that secret with respect and kindness, you will have a Faery-Godfather for life.
When creating a Bogeyman Kaiju character, you will be giving him a Focus from the Super-Powers section. Read that entry for further explanation on how your character will be different from others.
