Sunlight and flesh

The aathex absorb sunlight. In order to survive, they must sun for hours, attracting sunlight with their bone-mane (called a conductive plate). If they are completely charged, they are able to grab sunlight instead of absorbing it. Female aathex have the ability to see heat patterns if they close their eyes. Male aathex have in childhood the ability to speak to lions. They lose this ability in adolescence, but gain the ability to cloudwalk once they are grown. The kurthex are immune to heat damage.

The aathex live in sunny areas--tropical climes, deserts, and so on. They avoid jungles, caves, and northern climes. They spend much of their time sunning, and their women usually guide them to the best spots. On the savanna, their children act as guards, warning lions away, and their men (in any area) travel to the skies to find good patches of sunlight or to move the clouds. They are honorable beings who live in small groups and take turns guarding each other as they sun.
