Tavalos is a spinel dwarf whose ship was capsized while sailing from Merukis to Malhuin. Lost at sea, desperate, alone, he drifted for two days before a ship from Harkanheim picked him up. He was told that his rescue would cost him seven years of indenture. Having little choice, he conceded, thinking to leave as soon as he could. Instead, he found the hard, ruthless lifestyle of Harkanheim was to his liking. He liked that all it took to get ahead was the will and strength to do so, and within eight months, he had shirked his indenture and become a merchant. Within ten years, he had become a favored financial adviser to Harkan himself.

This is why he was chosen to court Agikaan. He was sent as an emissary, with financial gain being the goal. Lucrative trade deals, promises of monsters, and access to fuligin were offered to Agikaan in exchange for a strong, close alliance.
