A taupe hive is a bee hive that is nearly impenetrable from predators and insectivores. The honey in a taupe hive is not especially special (it's good, but not magically amazing), but people will go to incredible lengths to get it, simply because it is so hard to get to. Taupe hive bees are incredibly aggressive in defending their homes, and if there's more than one hive in an area, they will defend each other's homes.
