Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, taupe dragons grow to be feathery winged serpent with two massive hind legs and taupe scales and wings.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Taupe dragons accumulate great quantities of comfort resonance and hegnh. Heavenly light, Foundation, and qi are very common, as is respect resonance, Damaskian power, and nommic power. Gebvel, soul, and divine energies are not unheard of. Unholy powers are impossible.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1:
  • Level 2: Immunity to being lost
  • Level 3: Immunity to concussive force
  • Level 4: Immunity to binding
  • Level 5: Scale grants bearer power to return home
  • Level 6: Impenetrable barrier
  • Level 7: Major cleansing, once per year
  • Level 8: Create minor structure
  • Level 9: Danger sense
  • Level 10: Grant asylum
  • Level 11: Summon starkads
  • Level 12: Commune with territory

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include healing, protective choosing, restore home, and invoke Laws of Hospitality.

Alternate Forms Taupe dragons sometimes take the form of a shellen.
Weaknesses Msawaht can corrupt and destroy them.
Subspecies Sanctum dragons have accumulated more comfort resonance and hegnh than others. They appear to be giant, immobile, shelled monstrosities that emanate a protective force that keeps all at peace and safety within its glow.
Culture Taupe dragons dwell within the cities of non-dragons, living in vast towers or complexes. They lay their eggs in special rooms, and their whole clan cares for them. They make alliances with the local populace to protect and serve them in exchange for treasures for their hoards, and they build powerful defenses for the cities they live in. At maturity, some taupe dragons become kren-manach and travel to new cities to trade with other clans. Many bring back mates from these excursions, while ohters seek mates via special festivals that bring cities together. In old age, taupe dragons retire to let younger dragons run the clan. Clan leaders are chosen through elections every millennium.
