| Culture | Tarcenes are the last survivors of the world Tarce. The last handful of them to survive were rescued by their Divine Anegarec the Storyweaver. Onitan found refuge on Second Shem and brought the Tarcenes to a small village. As Ages passed, the remaining Tarcenes survived and evolved in the environment of Shem's powerful magicks and became a small species / nation of performers and entertainers who travel the world as a unique group of nomadic storytellers. The most important part of their culture is remembering the days they dwelled on Tarce and the stories of the fall of their world at the hands of the Eldritch, whom they are always wary of signs of on Shem. As such, they often entertain audiences with these stories so that they might also know of this danger. Tarcenes view preserving their community as paramount and have strict rules about procreation that ensures a new generation that minimizes incest. Though they have tried for Ages, they have never succeeded in expanding their species beyond a few hundred in number. However, this has led to strict rules about arranged marriages and patriarchal views of anyone with a womb. Children are raised by the whole community and taught the stories of Tarce from a very early age. |
| Religion | Tarcenes worship Angarec the Storyweaver, the Divine that saved them from their dying world and brought them to Shem. They believe their deity is honored best by the stories they tell, which they tell every week via a series of storytelling games and rituals around great fires that the whole community comes to. |
| Gender | Tarcenes practice a strict form of patriarchy that focuses on reproduction and passing on stories to the next generation. Anyone who varies from a binary view of gender must draw from very old stories to justify their variation in a ritual before the whole community, and even then, they must pay a price by having two children before they are allowed to alter their bodies in any way to match their gender. Those who can bear children must bear at least two children in their lifetime, preferably more, and if they do not, they are considered second class members of the community with fewer rights. |
| Military | Tarcenes have no formal military, but all members of the community are taught to defend themselves. |
| Language | Tarcene language is rooted deeply in their ancient stories and is very referential and hard for outsiders to learn. |
| Trade | Tarcenes primarily make money by entertaining strangers with their storytelling. |
| Outside View | Tarcenes are seen as strange, perpetual outsiders who are distrusted in most societies. They are treated similarly to Roma on Earth. |
