Tara'hin was founded by a sun-faithful family who sought to forge the savanna tribes into a real, unified nation. From there, they expanded to control many other cultures around central Ranu, using tolerance of the customs of the conquered to quell them. Thus, the early Emperors wrote into their laws a form of religious tolerance based on a regulation of the faiths into one system. This system came to dominate central Ranu, with only minor variations, & much of the world outside of it in many ways. The only religion that was outlawed was undeath, who was still recognized. When later the Cult of Stillbirth formed, it, too, was outlawed but recognized as extant.

All deities are viewed as "Mother of" or "Father of," with rare exceptions, & the amount one worships them is up to the individual. Hierarchies & special agents were formed for each faith, with similar roles & titles across the board. Thus, all faiths had a high priest, a paladin (or similar) unit, & some form of monks & nuns. This uniformity of faith made them all equal in the eyes of the law & the land, or so claimed the Emperors. Of course, being that "Emperor of Tara'hin" was a special role in the Sun Faith, this was clearly not so. Further, the Empress was almost always Wind Faithful, giving them Windkin a political & cultural advantage.

However, amongst the Tara'hinian political sphere, faith did, in fact, come to mean little. High ranking officials belonged to any number of faiths (including darkness) at some point, & great heroes were recognized from many regions.
