Backstory:
Sykri grew up in the city of Aphis in Azet in northern Taggarus, on the edges of the great city with her family. At a young age, she formed a bond with the rodents she met, coming to understand them and the emotional impact of death on their social structures, animalistic though they were. She was drawn to the faith of the Gatekeeper, and when she came of age, she entered the Temple and began training. Though her parents found it odd, they accepted their daughter's path. Sykri became a devoted servant of the Gatekeeper, and her bond with rodents gave her insights and responsibilities regarding them.
Four times since she became a priestess, she has been sent out into the world to serve. The first time, she went to a city beset by plague. She used her bond with rodents to influence the rats into leaving the city, sparing them a massacre and ending the plague, while also attending her duties as mortician, funeral director, and giver of last rites. The second time, she left to try to prove her own independence and importance, but the world proved too much for her--and her temple proved to operate without her. Hurt, alone, and desperate, she begged to return to the temple, and they welcomed her. The third time she entered the world, the temple sent her south into the wide savannas where she helped tend the dead in a war between two small nations. The brutality and harshness of war left her weary and despondent, and she returned to the temple with a hope for peace. Her fourth departure was a personal one. Her great uncle had been found ill, and his passing was a sad time for her family--eidolons do not die of age, so the loss of an eidolon is always a shock to those close to them. She performed the funeral service, and then returned once more to her temple.
