| Description | At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, sulfur dragons grow to be brimstone-colored, seven-headed winged lizards. They stink of rotting eggs. Their scales are craggy, sulfuric plates between which yellow, sulfuric pus flows. Some appear to be made purely of shadow. |
| Procreation | Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching. |
| Esoterica | Sulfur dragons have accumulated massive amounts of infernum and shadow energy. It is not uncommon for them to have other infernal powers, including msawhat, arnum, rending, void, and entropy (in that order). Mana and divine energies are not unheard of, and other neutral energies, especially lunar aether, rubedian aether, Damaskian energy, blood and bone powers, and more volatile emotional energies are not uncommon. Holy powers are impossible. |
| Special Powers | Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:
All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects. Other common powers include immunity to heat, murderous gaze, wall of infernal stone, control demons, and violating presence. |
| Alternate Forms | Sulfur dragons are eager shapeshifters. Their most common forms are succubi/incubi, werespiders (spider-man form), naga, human, oerdoeg, and shadow. |
| Weaknesses | Any holy energy will harm them, but heavenly light can be easily fatal. |
| Subspecies | Shadow dragons are dragons whose shadow energies are higher than normal. They appear to be pure shadow beings, and they operate physically in a similar fashion to shadow-kin. Their shadowbreath converts material to shadow energy to be consumed, and they can walk through shadows. They can speak the tongue of shadows, and the only things they fear are shadow-kin and the Webweaver. Laburnum dragons are dragons whose sin energies are higher than normal. They appear a softer yellow in hue, with their craggy scales smoothed out to be almost petal-like. They only have three heads, not seven, and they are smaller than sulfur dragons. Their breath weapon is a yellow mist that erodes souls with sin. Soulsight is a very common power for them, and they can small murderers and rapists. Gossamer dragons are dragons whose gossamer light is higher than normal. They appear to be sleek, black wyrms with three heads and white spiderwebbing patterns all over their bodies. They breathe a blast of gossamer light that alters the minds of those it strikes, making them easily controlled. They can create actual webs like a spider and can dissolve the Names of those caught within them. Nightshade dragons are dragons whose malice or ambition resonances are higher than normal. They have a variety of colorful scales, all of them smoother than a traditional sulfur dragon's, but they have the same number of heads. Each head is a different shade. They can breathe a spray of colorful spores that cause the worst emotional qualities of those who breathe it in come out. They can see emotion, and they are often powerful slave-owners. |
| Culture | Sulfur dragons hatch their eggs in pools of sulfuric acid in the pools around volcanoes. They then leave the newly hatched dragons to fend for themselves. Kinder parents sometimes leave a few slaves for them to devour. Only about one in ninety survive. Sulfur dragons are vicious, prideful, and ambitious, and they refuse to work with more than a handful of others. In any given group of sulfur dragons, one will be the alpha, and the others will be plotting to overwhelm them. Sulfur dragons take on slaves and build small, secretive fiefdoms from which they pillage the surrounding area. They build massive dark hoards and kill rivals. Sulfur dragons are manipulative, controlling, and cunning, and any who oppose them are crushed, enslaved, or butchered. They use terror tactics to control their followers, and they demand to be respected and feared by all who appear before them. They usually do this in a forbidding, aloof, but effective manner. The most powerful sulfur dragons will take on many mates at once, breeding many times every month. |
