| Description | Strigoi are the souls of the troubled dead who have risen from the grave OR people afflicted with the curse before death. They have limited shapeshifting abilities, but generally appear as they did in life, but with red hair and blue eyes. |
| Procreation | Unmarried individuals are more susceptible to the strigoi curse. In order to protect against this, villagers will marry an unmarried corpse to another unmarried person of the same age in an attempt to protect them, but when this fails, the strigoi will hunt down their "spouse." Another carrier of the strigoi curse are certain cats, indistinguishable from regular cats, who will walk across the graves of recently dead people and cause them to become strigoi. Dying in pain or with heavy regrets is said to make one more susceptible to the curse as well. Children born with a caul on their heads will live in constant danger of attracting the curse. Children born to a strigoi viu will carry the curse. |

| Special Powers | Strigoi can turn into an animal or turn invisible. The default animal is a barn owl, but others are possible, such as bats, rats, cats, wolves, dogs, snakes, toads, lizard, spiders, or insects. Strigoi have a piercing, ear drum-shattering scream. They will drink the blood of their victims, slowly destroying their lives. Strigoi have two hearts. A person suffering the curse of the strigoi but not yet dead is the strigoi viu (the dead being strigoi mort). Strigoi can sense their loved ones, relatives, and spouses and will hunt them down. They must attempt to either destroy or avoid their family for seven years. After that, they are free to leave their territory and start over, becoming strigoi viu again. The strigoi viu has weaker versions of all the powers of the strigoi mort. |
| Weaknesses | Strigoi can be killed by holy energies or sufficient magic. Otherwise, they must be defeated by being stabbed through the heart(s) with a sickle or piercing object. One can drive a strigoi away by burying a bottle of wine near their grave, waiting six weeks, then drinking said wine. Anyone who has some of the wine is protected. Furthermore, piercing a body with a needle will seal it in its grave. Candles, coins, and towels placed in the hand of a corpse can keep the curse off them. Burning hemp weakens a strigoi, and they have a love for whiskey that will render them harmless. Otherwise, garlic, rosewood or aspen stakes, burning, removal of the hearts, decapitation, and crossroads burials all have profound affects on strigoi. They dislike light, but mundane light will not harm them. |
| Culture | People afflicted with the strigoi curse will slowly gain the powers of the strigoi viu, growing ever stronger until they die, when they are fully realized. They will also slowly gain the hungers of the strigoi, becoming fully hemophagic upon death. Their hunger drives them to become moralless monsters. |
