On Shem, there are many species who evolve from multiple sources (some of which are not from Shem) based on the energies they are most attuned to.- Akhoata: all-female-assigned species like muses and valkyries, descended from the Daughters of Shem
- Aliens: beings from other worlds
- Animal Folk: anthropomorphic animals
- Constructs: species created by other mortal species
- Deneg: spirit folk and terata under 4' tall
- Dragons: massive reptilian beings who absorb magic
- Elementals: beings made of the natural world
- Fairies: spirits subject to the Lore and the Tradition
- Fungal Folk: anthropomorphic fungi
- Illittum: species descended from greater infernal or celestial powers
- Inmortals: species who do not die of old age, who are beyond mortal
- Insinsi: mystics who study specific lores and sciences
- Insubstantiates: beings without traditional bodies, often made of energy, gas, or liquid
- Metahumans: magical humans
- Plant Folk: anthropomorphic plants
- Spirits: beings based on Earth's legends and lore
- Spirit Folk: fey beings inspired by legends and lore of Shem
- Terata: spirit folk deemed "monstrous"
- Undead: the corruption of life and death into something undying and unliving
