| Description | A secarean appears to be a bulky, cyllindrical humanoid figure made of lead, standing about 8' tall. They have a barrel-like torso that contains their reactor. Their heads are shaped like upside down buckets, with a thin slot near the top where their visual sensors are located. This slot runs almost entirely around their head, with only three small pieces connecting it to the lower part of the head. They have no mouths, but instead keep a tube on their short necks that can take fuel. Their legs and arms are special tubes connected to prehensile appendages. Internally, their reactor provides enormous amounts of energy for them to operate complex machinery and computers that allow them to shift their appendages into various forms, such as mining equipment, weapons, or other devices. |
| Procreation | New secareans are rare, only built to replace old ones that have stopped functioning (or those destroyed somehow). It requires the building of a new reactor, which takes many years, and a new body, which takes a few weeks. As such, reactors are built in anticipation of need. Major population loss takes years to recover from. |
| Esoterica | Secareans are beings of fundamental aether and complex energy. They are skilled users of both. They also use other forms of aether and paradox, Damaskian powers, shebv heya, gebvel, infernum, imperium, entropy, rending, hengh, Foundation, euergasia, and fate. |
| Special Powers | A secarean has the ability to create various instruments in place of their hands or feet. There is some variation in what each individual can create, but the most common forms are aether-beam lasers, electric scalpels, drills, saws, welding torches, and electrical testers. Their bodies are very heavy and tough, able to withstand extreme force and temperatures. |
| Mind | The CPU in a secarean is usually a slower model, developed to handle many processes steadily rather than fast. They have no hive mind, but they can communicate with one another more rapidly than with non-secareans. |
| Senses | Secareans have nearly 360 degree vision. They also have energy sensors, heat sensors, and seismic sensors. |
| Engineering | Hyperphysicists and multiscientists can use their skills to control, influence, or alter a secarean if they have access to their CPU. This means a physical connection, which is difficult if the secarean does not consent. |
| Weaknesses | Brown aether can harm them. Their reactors can meltdown and destroy them (and others around them). They require a great deal of coolant, which comes in the form of lunar ice. |
| National Culture | Secareans live in underground cities on the White Moon where they mine for uranium and lunar ice. Their cities are run by a facilitator, who makes sure the city keeps running. The facilitators employs coordinators to support them. The city is built around a massive reactor center where they power the city, build new reactors, and maintain control of the vast machinery of their community. Secareans mostly work in the mines or the reactor center, but other jobs include custodians, traders, repairers, and transporters. There is no gender among the secareans, nor a concept of family. They are not very social, either, but some social activities exist, mostly sports and machine-competitions. Gambling is a common vice among them. When a new secarean is built, it is trained by special secareans known as mentors. Facilitators and coordinators are chosen through a guild system. The military force of each city is a powerful faction that answers only to the facilitator, and the guilds exist to protect the traders, engineers, and repairers. Other roles are not protected. Secarean society is rough. There is little sympathy for those who do not work or those who try to improve their conditions. The traders and facilitator are most closely connected, keeping society running for their own benefit rather than the good of all. This leads to major conflicts, but they are put down quickly, as violence usually leads to reactor failures. |
| Outside View | Secareans are viewed by lunar nations as grim, often dull or dour folk with a monopoly on certain minerals that makes them necessary to deal with. Other nations on Shem usually have no idea they exist. If a secarean leaves their society, they are usually terrifying to others because of their size and appearance. |
