Ashmapatah
Small, icy beings on the side of sky islands.
Lifespan: 50 years
Diet: Water and meat
Habitat: Sides of sky islands
Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Ashmapatahs are 4’ tall beings with icy skin, white and very light blue bat wings, clawed hands and feet, and sharp fangs. They have bulging eyes with strong lids.
All ashmapatah are immune to cold and harmed by moderate heat. They absorb moisture through their skin, which is so cold, much of it freezes and falls off. They have a core temperature that would freeze solid most beings. They can see temperature. No cloud-based precipitation affects them.
The ice that forms and falls off of them often falls off the side of the sky islands and is thought of as hail far below.
Ashmapatahs live in small communities in shallow cave cities on the sides of the sky islands. They snatch birds out of the sky to eat, absorb moisture for sustenance, and live as hunter-gatherers. Their small communities are led by elders, though the best hunters are often revered by them. They worship thunderbirds and other elemental birds that dwell near their homes, and the best of them find ways to ride these massive avians. Their art is often carved into or drawn on their cave walls. When it hails on them, they rush out and revel in it, gathering it up to use to make weapons with.
Imperials often enslave them.

- Lifespan: 200 years
- Diet: Common fey fare
- Habitat: Faerie
- Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Diurnisians are brightly glowing fey with golden butterfly wings. They stand about 4’ tall. Their hair is made of light.
Diurnisians cannot abide the night. They hide in brightly lit rooms when night falls. Shadows scare and harm them. They need light to survive. They can glow brighter or dimmer at will. At high noon, they can grant one mortal the ability to look at the sun, the ability to resist all heat and radiation, or the ability to see through solid matter for an hour. They themselves can do these things once per week. Diurnisians can burn away shadows with a touch.
Diurnisians live in spherical buildings with lanterns and lamps all throughout. They have special windows that can be blocked off easily to keep the dark and moonlight out. They are considered strange even by fey standards, but they are respected for their powers and their understanding of the cosmos. In imperial culture, they are often exploited for their magic.
