Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be tentacled, bulbous worms with massive maws filled with razor sharp teeth. They are rust colored, in patches, and pale beige otherwise, with huge rust-hued bat wings.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Rust dragons have accumulated massive amounts of the arnic energy of self-denial and frustration emotional resonance, as well as other variations of arnum. Msawhat, infernum, rending, and winds aether are all also common, as is corrupted sol angelic aether. Kor, Damaskian power, gebvel, and mana are also common. Divine energies are not unheard of. Holy energies are impossible, as is flesh energy.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Malnourishing haze breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to thirst
  • Level 3: Immunity to apathy
  • Level 4: Unable to be sated
  • Level 5: Scale grants bearer fasting endurance
  • Level 6: Desiccating zone
  • Level 7: Rust touch, once per year
  • Level 8: Poison tentacles
  • Level 9: Sense need
  • Level 10: Landwasting touch, 10 mile radius
  • Level 11: Summon raveners
  • Level 12: Withering gaze

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include desiccate other, malnourish other, sandstorm, instill painful hunger, and deny need.

Alternate Forms Rust dragons sometimes take the form of a harpy.
Weaknesses Gratitude resonance will harm them.
Subspecies Desiccated dragons have accumulated more frustration resonance than most, and they have become thinner than physically imaginable. They absorb sustenance from the world around them and destroy it. They exude arnum in waves, which torments those around them. They breath a rusty powder that destroys moisture.
Culture Rust dragons lay their eggs in salt piles on the wastes of Malaer, where they abandon them. One in twenty survive to maturity, competing with each other and other dragons for resources. They enslave local non-dragons and build small gangs, and at maturity, they join larger gangs, bringing their own as payment for joining. The leader is always the most ruthless and powerful dragon. When they grow old, they are murdered for their resources.
