| Description | Ruebezahls appaer to be large, bulky goblins with broad shoulders with pale blue-gray skin. They have bald pates and short, spiky lower tusks. Their lesser counterparts are called cave goblins, which have light tan skin with dark brown hair. Both forms have stubby tails. |
| Procreation | Follows the mother, with other goblins. Halfbreeds may occur outside of race. |
| Magic | One in five million have soul magic. One in five hundred thousand have heart magic. Mind magic, body magic, & void are possible. Faith is not uncommon. |
| Special Powers | Cave goblins have excellent nightvision, incredible skills at knowing their way in the intricate cave systems they live in, & an affinity for cave bears. After the Rite of Awakening, they lose their nightvision & begin a growth spurt that brings them to their full adult size. At this point, they gain exceptional toughness & a stronger affinity for cave bears. They also lose their cave-senses, but gain mountain-related instincts. Ruebezahls are meticulous and patient, but have powerful tempers. They have excellent weather sense, knowing when it is safe to go out into the mountain passes, and when not. Ancient ruebezahls can make the earth shake by trodding heavily, but only do so when it is necessary, lest they risk avalanches. |
| Weaknesses | Ruebezahls are claustrophobic, relating closed in spaces with the brutality of their youth. Cave goblins are agoraphobic, relating open spaces with being exposed to the dangers of the outside world. |
| Culture | Cave goblins live fiercely competitive lives below the surface, as brutal & unfeeling as the stones they sleep on. They are weaned from their mothers' teats at about age 2, then left to roam free in the caves with their brethren, living in wild gangs & causing headaches for their neighboring dwarves & gondals. Their own Rite of passage, the Rite of Awakening, comes when their nightvision starts to fail. They become more & more accustomed to light, & begin moving toward it, until one day, they just leave for the fresh mountain air. As ruebezahls, they become roamers & ramblers, keeping to the highlands, tending them as a large, wide open home. They live in clans & tribes, & tend to band together more often than not, their rivalries being more or less friendly, even. They are solid, stoic people when it comes to trouble (like a mountain weathering a storm), & celebratory & enthusiastic when it comes to their revels (akin to an avallanche). They are called the Stone Clan by themselves and other goblins. Ruebezahls are known to mountain travelers as folk to make peace with--they are generous with their friends, offering both medical aid and hospitality. If one befriends a ruebezahl, one will likely receive a present every time one passes through their territory. Betray a ruebezahl, though, and the vengeance they bring will be legendary., Ruebzeahls love to play harp. |
