During the Godless Times, many were enslaved to the sects who served the dark forces to build huge, vast temples, to honor demons with more ego than sense. The truly skilled slaves would be allowed some freedom, and their tongues, so they could better do their jobs. Roan Khavaros was a sturdy lad, son of a tongueless slave woman given to a master mason, who grew up believing himself lucky not only to have such freedom and his tongue, but also to be living a life where he got to build things. His childhood ignorance of just what happened in the temples he built kept him a placcid slave, despite his quick temper at those who tried to bully or boss him around.

He made a name for himself amongst the slaves as being generous and gentle to those less fortunate, using his spare time to craft small things for them that made life easier. He made a name for himself amongst the overseers and owners as having a hot head when aroused, and being the finest craftsman amongst the slave pens of the Palhuric enclave of Hurrunic cultists. He was eventually called before the High Priest, where he was forced to witness a sacrifice to the demon-lord, and told he was to be given to the High Priest of Yul' as a present. He was told to begin designing a throne for the Squid-Demon's Hierarch.

Disgusted that the altars he shaped, the thrones he built, and the temples defiled, Roan resolved to no longer be apart of it. He began to starve himself on the voyage to Taggarus, where the Yul'ian High Priest resided. When he arrived, he was much thinner and weaker than before, and the slavers had to force him to eat and stand. When presented to the Yul'ians, they were offended by such a poor present, and declared war on the Hurrunics. Roan was thrown in the common slave pits and left to be dealt with later.

Fortunately for him, the slave trade had brought others to the Yul'ians who had once dwelt and worked with him, and they took care of their old friend for the care he once gave them. They hid that he still had a tongue and made sure he got good food when they could. Within a month, the slavers had forgotten his strange circumstance, and he had begun to come out of his dark depression. As a common laborer, he was able to work away his worries.

Until one day, Hurrunics over ran the work camp, and soldiers who recognized him pulled him out to be punished. He was taken to the Hurrunic High Priest and told he would build the most fantastic dark temple ever known, or ten slaves a day would be sacrificed in front of him. Knowing he was beaten, he agreed. He designed and lead the construction of the Bot Temet temples, praying every night for some catastrophe to stop them, some sign of help, anything to prevent their dark uses from coming to be. No miracle came, however, and the Bot Temet temples were finished within a few years.

At their completion, Roan was brought in chains before the High Priest, who ordered him chained to the two main pillars of the temples. He was chained and suspended above the congregation of dark cultists and ordered to watch as every slave who built the temple would be skinned and have their hearts ripped out. The priests called out the sacrifices to their demon-lord, but before they were taken the altar, each slave whispered as best they could a dedication of their death to Roan. A hundred such sacrifices would mean nothing, a thousand little more, but ten thousand sacrifices in the name of a mortal did work: Roan was empowered, strengthened beyond mortal measure.

Using the strength of ten thousand slaves, Roan pulled the chains connecting to the main pillars, and slowly but surely, brought the main temple of Bot Temet to the ground, killing thousands of cultists. Miraculously, Roan was spared death in all this, and he arose from the ruins galvanized to a new purpose: to create things that would never be used in such horrific fashion again. He wandered, gathering craftsman to his call, freeing slaves, and helping any he met. As he went, his followers called on him to take the power of the Mountain, a legend amongst slaves living so close to it.

Heeding their call, he took the 13 Trials and came down, Champion of Creation, the Great Mason.

Roan appears to be a huge man, about 7' tall, wearing a mason's apron and hard work clothes. He often has masonry tools on his belt. His face is chiseled, cut, sharp, and his short brown hair is slicked back. His eyes are in a constant squint, masking their deep brown color, and his hands are heavily calloused. Around his cheeks and elbows, the lines of his time on hunger strike still show.
