The Reever Sea has been home to sailors for as long as Shem has existed. They have intermingled from a thousand different cultures and traditions, and from that cross-cultural experience, a unique view of the Gods has arisen. Centered on Merukis, both reevers & common sailors view the gods through a lens of the ocean's influence.

The most important deities in the faith of the Reever Sea are water, weather, & wind, with the reevers also giving equal weight to wealth. The Mother of Oceans is the primary deity for both groups, an ever changing mistress who will either cradle you in her breast or crush you in her fists. The Storm Father is one whose favor means calm seas, & whose wrath means the violence of the hurricanes. The Wind-Keeper keeps the sails full for those he finds worthy. Reevers often give equal worth to the Father of Riches, who provides them with the treasure they seek.

Reevers often find patrons amongst the dark pantheon, commonly darkness, chaos, hatred, envy, or destruction. To all people, the title "Webweaver" is known, but a reever whose patron is darkness often views him as the Dreaded One-Eyed Shadow Captain (or some variant thereof). He is followed by those who love the power given them by taking up the role of reever. Chaos is viewed through the lens of the Champion of Chaos, making him Diamond's God, the Frothing Sea, or the Chainbreaker. He is followed by those who value the freedom of having no rules on the high seas. The Blooded Dagger is the Father of Hatred, & those who follow him are those who turned to piracy out of hatred for others & spite for the world. The Green-Eyed Reever Queen is envy's title, & those who follow her are in it for the taking of that which belongs to others. The Rape-Born Goddess is another of her titles, & those who use it generally reflect it. Finally, there is the Capsizing God, the Wrecker, destruction, whose followers are generally cannoneers & other violent roles.

The next most common deities are those who fulfill specific roles in a sailor's or reever's life: cosmos, the moons, death, fauna, harvest, celebration, travel, war, home, story, creation, fate, or hope. Cosmos is the navigator's patron, the Guide. The moons are controllers of the tides, the Tide-Keeper, & i followed by those who use her cycles to keep their ships safe. Death is the Deepest, & is very rarely worshiped outright, but often commented upon, (particularly where one is sent when one dies at sea). On the seas, fauna is the Fish-Lord, & fishermen often honor him along with harvest, or the Fishbringer. Celebration is the Merrymaker to both sailors & reevers, & he is often invoked in their cups. Travel is the Course-Keeper, who makes movement on the seas possible, & he is complemented by the Course-Setter, or fate, who sets the currents of the sea to their destinations. Reevers & marines often invoke the Father of Battles, & the Mother of Berths is loved by any sailor who needs one or has a home port. The Yarnspinner is well respected in both major circles, & the Shipmaker is a necessary part of life on the seas. Finally, many sailors, & some reevers, respect the Mother of Freedom, for that's their main motivation in seeking the life on the seas.

Other major deities that are often respected include dream (the Net-Maker), luck (the Fickle Bastard), flora (the Kelp-Mother), fire (the Lantern), vision (the Lighthouse Mother), hunt (the Fishfinder, the Shiplure), skill (the Hand of Hands), might (the Captain's Arm), force (the Seawall), music (the Great Musician), & truth (the True Course).

Amongst reevers, order & light are often disliked, being called the Chainmaker & the Lady Hangsman. Amongst normal sailors, they are sometimes respected as the Lawmaker & the Arm of Justice.

Almost all sailors, reever or no, dislike despair, undeath, nightmare, mischief, & pestilence. Despair takes the form of the Doldrums, the calmed sea. Undeath is the Queen of the Ghost Ships, & she is greatly feared. Nightmare is the Net-Breaker, who causes everything to go wrong. Mischief is the Linesnapper, whose tricks make good hands useless. Pestilence takes many forms: Cabin Fever, King Scurvy, the Seasick God, & the Rat-Keeper being the most common, but most feared is the Bleak Water.

Other deities that are only sometimes invoked: knowledge (the Chartmaker), famine (the Empty Hold), peace (the Gentle Sea), sun (the Day Guide), life (the Mother), silence (the Fog God), healing (the Surgeon of Surgeons), time (the Waterclock), dragon (the Great Dragon), ice (the North Wind), change (the Shifting Cloud), & family (the Crew-Keeper).

Earth is almost never thought of, being largely irrelevant, except sometimes as the Island Father. Void & magic, if thought of at all, are brought up through a lens of their main religions. Stillbirth is generally viewed negatively except by the most depraved reevers. All other faiths have little or no significance in reever culture.
