| Description | At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be made of bright red fire around a hard scaly shell. |
| Procreation | Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching. |
| Esoterica | Red dragons have accumulated massive amounts of rubedian aether. Damaskian power, sol angelic aether, fundamental aether, fate, entropy, radiance, dumaqu, flux, emotional resonance, infernum, and arnum are all common. Divine energies are not rare. Currents and brumal aether are impossible. Greenlight aether is extremely rare. |
| Special Powers | Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:
All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects. Other common powers include instill passion, choking smoke, summon salamanders, burn soul, burn mind, and burn emotions. |
| Alternate Forms | Red dragons sometimes take the form of a fyr-ka'ar. |
| Weaknesses | Currents or brumal aether harm them. |
| Subspecies | Burning dragons are red dragons so consumed by rubedian aether that they become uncontrollable, raging infernos that consume all around them until used up. |
| Culture | Red dragons lay their eggs within volcanoes, where they ensure they have enough fuel, then leave them to their own devices. Two in three survive to maturity. When they are old enough to move about, they are taken in by older dragons, who use them as servants until they reach maturity. At maturity, they become full members of the tribe and are tasked with gathering for the hoard. Red dragon hoards must be constantly supplied, for much of them burn or melt away. Red dragons take but never give, and they often take from communities near to their territories. They have a reputation as bandits. When they grow old, they usually burn themselves out and fade away within the volcanic magma. |
