Rachna was taken slave as a 13 year old, escaped with the help of the Blue Grith at age 17, chose to live on her own and try to make it as a free woman for seven years, then turned to a life of crime. She found herself in jail, being mentored by an older woman of the Red Grith, and once she got out after a month, she started working for them. After years of work, she was offered a place as the Captain of Belly because of her tendency to make sure everyone around her was taken care of and her skill with numbers, both things she learned during her years on her own.

Grithscale: The Grithscale is a small metal scale. On one side is a coin, representing the needs of the Red Grith, and the other side, a supplicant places their finger. The scale then weighs if their needs, telling the Captain of Belly how much this person has contributed and therefore how much they should be given to eat, drink, or otherwise meet their needs.
