Qualities
Qualities are optional game mechanics that work entirely as metagame tools to emphasize or reflect the PCs. These are mechanics that reward the players for playing with the mindset of their characters.
Elemental Tokens
A player who has an elemental-aligned PC occupation or species may get elemental tokens to affect the environment around them - as long as they are near anything elemental or natural, they can have narrative tokens to dictate what nature is doing, so long as it is natural. They can have tokens to dictate a wild or feral animal shows up, a breeze comes through, the rain starts, the clouds clear, etc. These are earned for any time in the game when they choose the environment, nature, or the cosmos over their own personal gain, their personal lives, or what is mechanically good for the game.
Fey Tokens
A player who has a fey-aligned PC occupation or species may get special tokens or be rewarded for performing in certain ways above the table. For example, if the character's powers involve poetry, music, giving speeches, etc., it is a standing rule that they take the high die if they they actually perform the poem, sing or play the music, give the speech, etc. The GM may further reward this for fey-aligned characters by awarding special tokens that allow them to enchance their performance abilities or powers, craft special glamours or illusions, or have extra lores.
Infernal Tokens
A player who is playing an infernal-aligned PC occupation
and species may be allowed to play like a jerk and steal tokens from other players or the GM. If they do this without getting caught and spend the token in game, they may announce that they did it and earn a special token that may be used for player-vs.-player or for a specific evil purpose as determined by the GM. This mechanic should be discussed with all players to make sure they are wary of potential thefts. If a player catches the infernal-aligned PC trying to steal their tokens, they may earn themselves a token by telling the GM and preventing the player from using it. It should be noted this is a mechanic that could spoil the game, so be sure to talk with players to make sure they are onboard before implementing it.
If a player is playing a character who is an infernal-aligned species but not occupation or vice versa, they may use this mechanic, but it will cause them to have to take the low die for their occupation/species powers for as many rolls as they had success levels with their roll that used the stolen token (1 for NS, 2 for SS, 3 for ES, 4 for CS).
Supernal Tokens
A player who has a fey-aligned PC occupation or species may get rewards for sharing their tokens. Because supernal or popular magic and alignment are about support, protection, and resistance to tyranny, a player who uses their tokens to help the other players is reflecting that. They may be rewarded by not losing a shared token (with limits on how often they can do this), being given high die for their next roll or rolls, or by being given special tokens to use for supportive, protective, or defiant actions or effects within the game, as per the GM's discretion.
Unaligned Tokens
A player who has an unaligned PC occupation or species earn special tokens depending on the kind of unalignment they have:
- Ambrosial or faith-based: any character may take the high die if they recite actual prayers or give details on their rituals, rites, or religious or faith practices, but for unaligned characters using an ambrosial power or ability, they may gain tokens when doing this that allow them to reroll 1s on faith rolls, roll an extra d4 to d8 on 5s or 6s, or to invoke the power of their worship when they roll a 10 to roll another three d10s and add the second median die to their first roll.
- Nommic: characters using nommic powers or abilities may earn special tokens for ???????????????
- Paradoxical: characters using paradoxical powers or abilities may earn special tokens when they embrace the contradictions of their magic. This means if they attempt the impossible with their magic, they gain special tokens on special+ failures that allow them to roll with different dice or to force the GM to do so - i.e., they may use a token to roll three d12s, two for d20s, or three for d100s, or they may force the GM to use d8s (one token), d6s (two), or d4s (three).
- Shebvic: characters using shebvic powers or abilities may earn special tokens for ?????????????????
