Most poisons are divided into four classes: cholinergics, anticholinergics, withdrawals, and opiates.

Almost all poisons can be treated by ingesting activated charcoal quickly after they have been taken if the poison is in the stomach of the victim. This absorbs all the poison still remaining in the stomach. By the time the patient becomes symptomatic, however, it is too late for even that prophylaxis.

The basic toxidromes are as follows:

Anticholinergic poison makes the patient mimic the body's response to great injury or shock. Blindness, fever, halucinations, and so on. Treatment is purely supportive while they get it out of their system. A lot of the drugs for mental imbalances and for nasal symptoms are anticholinergic.

Withdrawals gear the patient up for imminent fight, but also causes muscle siezures. Most street drugs and some hallucinogins used in various rituals do this. Treatment is to administer a particular drug used to treat alcohol withdrawal and siezures. This drug reactivates blocked nerves and calms the signal of the poison. It is also paramount to note that transporting and securing agitated patients is a tricky prospect. You must protect yourself, but also keep the patient from harming themselves in their bonds. Always transport them on their back, not prone.

Opiates cause a simulated shutdown of the body. In the case of the stomach, that also means a rejection of all contents by vomiting. These include all sedatives and poppy-derivatives. Treatment is a long haul, as you stay with the patient and keep them awake, make them breathe deeply, and talk to them. Some patients do not exhale completely, causing their body to change the balance of acid and base (think vinegar and soda), which can cause its own problems. Mixing these with withdrawal-type poisons can amplify the dangers.

Cholinergic drugs simply make the nerves go haywire. The patient flexes and releases all muscles, activates all processes: urination, defecation, tears, salivation, muscles, siezures, excited heart, spastic breathing, and some truly alarming digestive distresses. Treatments are supportive, but may also include the administration of certain anticholinergics. Some wild mushrooms, the juice of the tobacco plant, and any of numerous gasses and liquids specifically designed as pest-control poisons or gasses to use in war against your enemies are cholinergic poisons.
