Procreation Piskies reproduce sexually with each other, with other fey, with mortals.
Esoterica Piskies are beings of flux, poioumenon, and dream energy. Like all faeries, they are users of The Tradition, a form of poioumenonic lore empowered by dream energies. They also use mana, entropy, radiance, msawhat, currents aether, winds aether, ethereal energy, fundamental aether, seasonal aether, fortune, misfortune, emotional resonance, complexity, paradox, possibility, kor, yahas, and spirits.
The Tradition

Piskeys have these basic fey powers:

  • Piskies can vanish and become insubstantial by speaking their True Name into a mirror.
  • A circle of salt will protect a pixi from supernatural powers for as long as it goes undisturbed.
  • Any pyske may summon a faeriesteed by whistling three special notes.

If they tangle the mane or tail (leaving ringlets) of a pony, horse, donkey, or other ungulate, they can control it completely. They are drawn to ponies.

If they hear someone speak in the same tone three times, they can copy it perfectly. A pixie can write their True Name on velour and cut it up, then restitch it together to alter their True Names. They do not feel fear or sadness except in the most intense circumstances.

If a pizkie dances with another piskey, they both get good luck. They dance all the time. If they have good luck, they can spread it around by dancing with others of any fey or mortal nation or species.

The entrance to a pixie's home narrows as they age, if they live there for any long period of time. This is part of why they trade houses often.

If someone plays with them or is kind to them, they can reward them by changing one small thing about them by blowing them a kiss and giving them an amulet made of a stone with a hole in it. This can be their hair color, their wealth, the length of their life, their location, who loves them, the state of their marriages or other relationships, almost anything. Similarly, if they are ignored by someone or harmed by someone, they will punish them by changing one small thing about them by waving a wand of faeriewood. If they take a mortal lover and are betrayed by that lover, they can take the soul of their betrayer by stealing a kiss from them while they do their chores.

Pizkies can walk on water; their tiny boats can sail on grassland. If they walk on grass, it becomes more vibrant and alive as they step. Wild forest animals who live near them trust and protect them. Domesticated animals will freely give them milk, fur/wool, or affection if they have been sung to by the pigsie.

A pisky can get into a locked room by sweet talking the walls. They are very stealthy.

If a pisky's territory is invaded, they will be able to confuse and misdirect the invader by dropping a piece of apple and a drop of dew into a fairy ring and singing a song backward.

They never appear to age.

Glamour Pixis can glamour themselves using certain ancient rhymes. They usually take the form of something inanimate like a pile of rags, an old stump, or a bouncing ball.
Weaknesses If they do not speak their True Name backwards into that same mirror in half a minute, pixies lose their True Names. They have a fortnight to recover it or they become targets of the Wild Hunt, corrupted into another kind of fey, or turn into a hag or boggin. Iron or steel will bind a pigsie into powerlessness. An iron horseshoe nailed over a door will bar a pigsie from entering a house. Most piksies detest tobacco smoke, and it can be used to stave them off. This is just a preference, however, and not a weakness. The ringing of large bells harms them. A piskey can lose their laughter if they are not careful; if they do not find it again (it ill be at the bottom of the nearest body of water), they start feeling sadness and fear.
National Culture

Piskies live in small tribes in the high moorlands and the deep forests. Each tribe is led by a donsya. They dwell in caves and small huts in the higher regions of their territories; they build great stone circles, barrows, dolmens, menhirs, and ringforts as centers of power and meeting. Their biggest sites are festival sites, where they gather to dance (often up to 600 in a circle dance at a time). Tribes are split up by size and personality; some are known for their mischief, some for their generosity, some for their grumpiness, etc.

Piskeys rarely wear clothes, but if they do, the clothing is a hodgepodge of whatever they can find. Bright ribbons, pointed hats, green linens, old rags, pieces of finery. Usually, if given clothing, they will discard it, forget it, until much later.

Though they do not domesticate any animals, they often play with the wild animals or domesticated animals of others. They especially love to ride horses and ponies. Anyone living within their territory will often find their horses scattered, but also find their housework done for them. They will mislead those who bring violence or danger to their homes, tricking them into leaving (or even killing them via trickery by sending them into danger).

Each tribe is self-sufficient as gatherers of fruit and grains, hunters of game, and makers of tools. They do some trade amongst their own, but rarely engage with other nations.

Pizkie children are raised by their parents or close relatives. There are no formal schools amongst the pizkies; children learn by being active in the tribe. Because of their fickle natures, they often switch roles within the tribe many times, or even switch tribes. This is rarely seen as disloyalty; most often it is done on whim, anyway. Courtship among pixis is always informal. Gender varies, as they often change their Names.

Nationally, the pixies have a queen, who is the head of their oldest tribe. In times of crisis, they turn to her and her advisers (each elected from the tribes). The queen is a hereditary role, but the advisers are elected.

Pixies are explorers. Many of them seek out the remote corners of the world, wandering for years, even deep ocean caves, distant wildernesses. They love to follow rivers, streams, creeks to their sources. These wanderers usually return to their nation with small treasures and odd trinkets. They travel at night for safety and try to blend in with mortals when it comes up, trying out mortals' cultures.

Every year, the pyskes re-enact the banishing of certain invaders who tried to bring in massive bells. This ritual celebrates their independence from ancient enslavers, whom they went to war with. None remember who these were, though they were fey. Their other main festivals are dancing festivals around the changing of the seasons (nine in total), save for the Beltane festival, which is for wrestling and games.

Pigsies are given a clay pot to play with as children, used for moving sand, water, or toys around. When they die, if their pot is still in tact, they are cremated and placed in it, then placed into a dolmen. One hundred years and a day later, the pots will be empty and the pigsie's soul/Name will be reincarnated.

Court Culture Piskies are part of the peasant class among the Seelie Courts. Their tribal territories are considered fiefdoms, and a few of their donsyas are given some rank as overseers, but none are accepted into the nobility. Only their queen is considered a noble. As peasants in the Court, they are expected to pay for their use of land and are taxed on trade. Their customs of not trading with other nations is not allowed, though some of the more remote tribes maintain it. Most of them have acclimated to the Seelie Court and engage in trading. They have sworn fealty to The Queen for protection from the Unseelie Courts, who have invaded them for Ages. Though there are some tribes who resent it, others are grateful. There is little unity among them on this issue. So long as they can dance together, though, they do not mind.
Other Courts Pizkies are welcome in the Summer and Kindly Courts. In the Winter Court, it varies by individual. Some are enslaved, most are allowed to exist as peasants. In the Unseelie Court, they are enslaved and used for their powers. And in the Unkindly Court, they are killed unless they are especially tough and ruthless.
Mortal Interactions Pixies help mortals with housework, play with them (especially carefree mortals), and take their horses for midnight rides. They steal from them occasionally, but rarely anything valuable. They sometimes trick them for fun or as revenge. They can bring good fortune or changes to a mortal. And when they travel among mortals, they seek to engage with their cultures.
