| Description | A faded version of their living selves. |
| Corruption | Low levels (3) of msawhat corrupting a soul can cause someone to become a phantom upon death, and a person who is pettily corrupt (taking small bribes, doing minor favors, low-ranking political figures, etc.) can die with enough corruption on their soul to become one. |
| Esoterica | Phantoms are beings of msawhat. They can use weak msawhat powers as well as a very weak version of any powers they had in life (3-6), but most will be corrupted a litle bit by the msawhat. They cannot use any heavenly essences, the gates, or qi. |
| Special Powers | Phantoms cause unease in those who are near them. If they pass through someone, they steal some of their emotional energy and feed off it. They can move through solid matter. |
| Necromancy | Turning someone into a phantom requires corrupting their soul with a small dose of msawhat (3) then killing them before it is purified. To control or summon a phantom requires similar amounts of power, and though they have not much power to draw, some energy can be drawn from them. A necromancer can capture a phantom and use it to create an aura of unease, to phase through solid matter, or to draw emotional energy off someone, but only once for any of these before the phantom is used up. A medium will find a phantom does try to take over their body more often than not, but rarely will the phantom be strong enough. |
| Sending | Phantoms can be sent with minimal use of qi, gates energy, or heavenly essences (3). |
| Weaknesses | Phantoms are especially weak to light of purification (1). |
| Behavior | Phantoms wander through the places they once had power over, endlessly seeking sources to feed off of, living a pathetic existence. |
| Dominion Culture | The Raesian Dominion uses phantoms as weapons to weaken certain enemies without killing them, usually deploying them selectively in political schemes with their allies or rivals. Some phantoms earn a little extra power, such as the power to move objects to cause actual harm, but this is rare. Phantoms are viewed as slaves and with contempt. |
| Other Dominions | Phantoms occur in the Srisian Dominion without being intentionally crafted. There, they are viewed as nuissances, slaves, or sources of energy to be harvested. Phantom slaves in the Srisian Dominion sometimes have a little extra power to harm the living. Fellwood, Agikaani, and Durosian Dominions sometimes employ them with a little extra power (fear presence, strengthened unease, or strengthened emotional draining) to harry and terrorize, but this is rare and only in special circumstances. The Kaanian Dominion sometimes uses phantoms as distractions, giving them special powers to drain children. The Godless Dominion views them with contempt and rarely employ them, and the Qhanuum Dominion only uses on special missions to weaken heart mages. In the Dun, Wapek, Sangarian, and Campionese Dominions, their heartdraining is always stronger. In the Pandemonian Dominion, they are often randomly formed and ignored. |
| Mortal Interactions | Phantoms, often assumed to be ghosts by mortals, are feared and viewed as stronger than they are, usually. |
| Afterlife | Phantoms rarely move on without being forced to. When they do, it is only because of very unlikely acts of redemption, and thus, they usually move on quickly if this happens. Those who are sent via gates energy usually end up remaining for a millennia or so in the in-between, but those sent via qi or heavenly essences, especially light of purification, move on very quickly. |
