Once, long ago, all faeries were one nation. They lived in harmony. Then, one day, division occurred, and those who had more tried to control those who had less. The Manifest of the Faeries had many names; at the time, she was just called The Mother. One of her lovers, whose name is forgotten, tried to enslave her, and war broke out among the fey. This first division created what would one day be known as the Seelie and the Unseelie Courts. The betrayer became known, eventually, as The Teind, and he took on a new lover,
Nicnevin. His old lover, The Mother, was
Belphoebe, who would, as the wars settled down, become known as The Queen.
The Queen had many lovers, even after the Seelie Court rose. Her oldest lover was known as
Finvarra, The King. He was injured deeply in battle with
The Teind and went to rest. He has since been known as the Sleeping King, and none have been able to wake him. The Queen still yearns for his wisdom and loving company.
Since then, the Seelie Court has been eternally at war with the Unseelie Court, allying deeply with other courts and nations against them. Until Starfall, on Shem, the Seelie Court and Unseelie Courts were the only two recognized, but after, an accord was come to that let the Summer Court and Kindly Courts become independent.
The Seelie Court is made up of the sidhe, who are the main ruling class; the fays, who are mostly the peasant class; the leprechauns, who are mostly peasant class; the satyrs, who are peasant aristocracy; the scealaithe, a privileged servant class; the tuatha, who are both ruling and peasant class, as well as mercantile; the yoseis, who are mostly servant class; the pookas, whose class varies by individual; and the piskies, who are servant and peasant class.
The Queen keeps a court that includes a few members of all nations, to attempt to appease them.
Robin Goodfellow is her pooka court jester. Archduchess
Danu is Queen of the Tuatha and a trusted adviser to The Queen.
Sean-Jack is an ancient fay who was elevated to be an adviser at the Court.
Sconna Dearg is Lord of the Seven Fortunes, a leprechaun whose wealth bought him a place in Court.
Skogyn Bobba is a foolish pisky who became The Queen's favored handmaiden.
Pan, King of the Satyrs, who raises hell in Court.
Mhor, a scealai who tells The Queen stories. And
Kyasuta, The Queen's spellcaster.
