Nuox was born in Uodsopul to a powerful and deeply religious family. He grew up hearing that he was special, great, and important, and so he believed it wholeheartedly. When it came time for him to be tested for the clergy, however, he was found lacking. He did not score well enough, and he was rejected. Hurt, he left Uodsopul to find another path for his greatness, and out in the world he met other followers of the Voidfather. Through a series of adventures involving outwitting mages, destroying magical artifacts, and other void-related tasks, he rose in power in the eyes of the Voidfather. He also acquired a ward named Kacha Pesh, though he never relates the tale of how this came to be.

When he returned to Uodsopul, people claimed that his power came from a deal made with dark powers. He ignored these claims and claimed power instead. Soon, however, the rumors forced him out of the office he carved for himself, and he returned to wandering the world, his ward in tow. Not long after, he met Glenda Rust and made an alliance with her, seeking the Pit as the ultimate symbol of nullification.
