Netzinog
A
gnomish administrator, functionary, or governmental worker who fixes gnomish society when it needs fixing.
Gnomish Government
Gnomish society is... different. They do not see government as an expression of politics or class struggle (though they are immune to neither), but as another system to be understood and interacted with. As such, they interact with their government as they do anything - in an over-the-top, ridiculously convoluted, and inconsistently applied manner. A
turogzot will think nothing of applying one of their machines to gnomish government. And gnomes are not stupid - they know this is inefficient and dangerous. So they have netzinogs.
Maintenance
A netzinog's job is to fix what every other gnome breaks within their political system. They use devices called
kammiggort machines. When applied to a hinbinalzohog machine, a kammiggort can be used to reverse the flow of the machine's effects, or to accelerate them.
Kammiggorts
A kammiggort is a simple machine - the opposite of a hinbinalzohog machine. It is three simple machines, in fact: a lever, a pulley, and a wheel-and-axle. They must be assembled and disassembled between uses. They cannot be used by any but the same netzinog who built them. And if they are broken, their most recent 10 effects will be reversed, so they must be closely guarded.
Materials
A kammiggort must be made of mundane materials - zinc is extremely common, as it draws esoteric energies to it and absorbs them. It must have one kind of metal, one kind of stone, and one kind of wood. Nothing in it can be currently alive. It must be kept clean, and it must be wielded only by the same netzinog over its lifetime.
Weapons
Some gnomes do not like it when netzinogs alter their effects on society, and so netzinogs carry
stun sticks, which are basically rudimentary, medieval tasers (galvanic battery, wire, metal stick, wooden handle). They have a power of 8 wound no matter the hit, but a power of 8/15/22 stun.
Variations
There are two variations: non-gnomish netzinogs (still called netzinogs) and junogziis.
Non-Gnomish Netzinogs
A non-gnome raised in gnomish society can be a netzinog with no penalties or special steps. An outsider must learn
ellozam olyog, the art of seeing a system and changing it, in order to be a netzinog, and they will often be at a disadvantage against gnomes (-1 to -3, depending). See
turogzot for more information.
Junogzii
Netzinogs who use their skills and machines to investigate crimes or failed inventions, the latter being a major issue in gnomish society, are the only major variation of the netzinog out there. They are detectives of gnomish society.
Drinking
Junogzii have a higher rate of alcoholism than any other role in gnomish society, in no small part due to the traumas inflicted upon them by seeing the results of failed experiments or rogue gnomes.
Societal Role
The netzinogs are the gnomish state, essentially, and they are sometimes feared and hated as agents thereof, but most see their purpose and appreciate them. Outside of gnomish society, they are just seen as gnomes, and thus oppressed.
