| Magic | All have heartbonding with their tonali. |
| Special Powers | Nagualli are born at the exact same time as their animal companions (called tonali). As they age, their innate emotional bond to these animals grows stronger and stronger until they begin becoming the same figure. Depending on the region, family, day of the week, and circumstances of the birth, the animal companion will be different. Often times, villages of nagualli will attempt to force the circumstances to keep the same form in the same communities. A typical tonal-day/night correlation is thus: Tagium - Jaguar/Puma/Ocelot (water-dwellers--Dolphin)Monbudhium - Donkey/Bat S'rayium - Turkey/Owl Sriyium - Dog/Lizard Rydium - Howler Monkey/Spider Riaxhium - Kingfisher/Red-Tailed Hawk Uqitum - Kinkajou/Golden Poison Frog Each nagual will have strong and weak aspects of these animals. Powerful naguals can form emotional bonds with new animals over the course of their lives. As a nagual ages, they will also take on aspects of their tonali. |
| Weaknesses | Killing the tonali before the nagualli are merged with the animal will cripple them for life. Void can kill them at any time. |
| Culture | Nagualli living in their own tribes attempt very hard to keep their tribes "pure" by keeping all of their tonali as the same animal. They attempt to delay births by days, and if they can't succeed at that, they will perform rituals to alter the circumstance in order to create the right bonds. In the few mixed-tonali tribes, temperament plays a role in the tonali-bond more so than anything else. Nagualli living amongst other beings are often viewed either with reverence or fear, depending on the culture and the individual nagual. Their ability to communicate with animals is appreciated, but feared. They are often blamed for disease, stolen objects, and animal attacks because of famous nagualli's bad reputations, but individual nagualli are varied. Still, persecution is not uncommon. Older nagualli sometimes become mad and take on the really dark aspects of their tonali--(non-undead) vampirism from vampire bats, shrieking berzerking from howler monkeys, etc. Curses are important in nagual society, central to their interactions. Threats of curses are part of their ethical structure and actual curses are used to protect the village. |
