| Description | Dead versions of what they were in life, often with unusual wounds left from their strange deaths. When lying in their graves, they will have their left eye open and their thumbs held in the wrong hands. |
| Corruption | When a person is the first to die from a plague in a group who all die from the plague, they often become a nachzehrer. Others who die from unusual suicides or accidents sometimes become nachzehrers if their flesh is corrupted enough. |
| Esoterica | Nachzehrer are beings of msawhat and hunger energy. They have very weak versions of the powers they had in life (4-6), always corrupted. They can learn some few arts of other energies in undeath, including arnum, cacophony, brown aether, feirua, Damaskian powers, gebvel, shebv heya, earthpower aether, shadow, infernum, blood energy, mijjit, mansam, pravum, spirits, blasphemy, and some emotional resonances. |
| Special Powers | Nachzehrer cause unease in those who see or hear them. Nachzehrer eat flesh, including their own. As they eat their own flesh, anyone related to them is weakened. They are compelled to always be eating at night (they rest during the day). They can smell the flesh of their kin and those who were near them in life, or those descended of their relatives and acquaintances from life, from miles away. They are very stealthy. At night, a nachzehrer can transform into a very thin pig. They must drink blood while in this form to retain access to this form. If a nachzehrer rings the bells of a holy place--temple, church, etc.--any who hear the ringing will die. A nachzehrer can also bring death by intentionally (but not accidentally) letting their shadow fall on someone. |
| Necromancy | To intentionally create a nachzehrer (15), one must make sure someone who died in an unusual suicide or accident or was the first to die of a plague has their name on their grave clothes. To control them, one must have a piece of their grave clothes kept in a jar of granite pieces. To summon one, break open the jar within a graveyard. To capture one and draw their power, one must have their thumbs kept on a string around their neck. |
| Sending | Placing a coin in a nachzehrer's mouth will paralyze it; chopping off its head after this will send it. |
| Weaknesses | Nourishment energy and light of bounty are especially effective, but all heavenly essences, qi, and the gates can harm them. |
| Behavior | Nachzehrer rise from their graves at night and seek out those they knew in life, or those related to those they knew in life, to devour them. They will also devour the dead in graves near them, including the clothing, or even their own bodies and grave clothes. They grunt as they devour clothing. They only go out at night. |
| Dominion Culture | In the Sangarian Dominion, nachzehrer are high-ranking commoners or low-ranking warriors, serving more powerful undead in exchange for access to flesh and blood to devour. |
| Other Dominions | In the Srisian Dominion, nachzehrer's shadow is much stronger. In Raesian, they are unable to enter a holy place. In Durosian, their pig form is stronger. In Fellwood, bell-ringing is more potent. In Godless, their bell-ringing violates and destroys the temples. In Qhanuum, they can go out in the sun. In Dun, they are much stronger when they die of plague. In Kaanian, they are formed of dead children. In Pandemonian, they can kill by accidentally striking someone with their shadows, and in Wapek, they can shatter frozen ground with their fists. In Agikaani, their pig forms are much more powerful. |
| Mortal Interactions | Nachzehrers are viewed by the mortals who live near their territories as a terrible plague, a massive problem that the authorities must address, and a warning against going to places one shouldn't be. They are greatly feared and keep people in-doors at night. |
| Afterlife | Redemption is possible but rare, requiring centuries in the in-between and a sending empowered by heavenly essences or qi. Otherwise, they end up in Broken Obelis, the Grey Lands, or the Hells. |
