During the early days of Shem, the gods were touring the newly fashioned world. All of the animals in the jungles of Dasinaseen (Madagascar) wanted to meet the gods, but most had no time for them. Early on, the Hippopotamus boldly introduced himself to the Serpent Mother, and she ordered him executed. So when the Flowerlady visited, she took time to speak to all of the humans, the flowers, and many other beings, but all the animals fled. The Flowerlady was wounded by her treatment, and she made to depart. The lemur, though, he was bold, and before the Flowerlady departed, he leaped out and introduced himself. The Flowerlady was delighted, and she presented him a garland of flowers. Honored, touched, delighted, he immediately swore to be her truest follower. She accepted his offer, and they have been the closest of friends ever since.
