In the later years of the Age of Decline, when the Empires of the previous age have become shadows of their former selves, a small city on the edge of Ranu has suddenly become a boomtown. Twenty years previous, a new invention revolutionized the world--the movie was invented. Now, the little town of Belle Point has become the largest city on the western coasts of the nation-state of Ienova. The sunny stretch of beach that was once a small outpost on the blistering savannah is now a hundred miles of busy streets, movie studios, & mansions.

In the midst of the worst drought in the known history of the region, the film studio once known as Peccary Studios is changing its name, under its new Chairman Armande Green, to Aurdog Studios & buying up property all over the city--in the form of land, buildings, & people. News spreads like wildifire--the new star actress of the silverscreen will be picked next Uqtium, Tishar 15th, by famed shock & horror movie director Seamòn Coranizo (known for horror classics like The Webweaver's Children, Beast from Bellflower Lake, Aldergast, The Return of Hollow Jack, The Ansulymic Nightmare, & Legion).

Meanwhile, on the streets, El Arbol Park has been bought & scheduled for demolition. Thousands of old trees will be cut down in a few weeks' time. Crime families are waging open war in the streets. The mayor is openly accepting bribes from all quarters. Street gangs rule the ghettos. Thousands of homeless people roam the streets. A financial depression dominates the economy (except for the movie studios, who seem to be doing all right). World war looms on the horizon (President Wallace struggles to keep the Isolationists & the Hawks & the Doves in balance, but sooner or later, the Hawks will win).

The completion of the Bankerton Reserve, the water supply of the city has been recently increased, despite the drought. Other cities in the region scoff at the blatant favoritism, but the locals point out that the Reserve was paid for with taxes paid by the local movie companies. Local debates rage over who should have access to the Reserve.

Despite this, the local transportation system is the best in the world. New fangled "buses" run the streets, as well as local commuter trains. Automobiles are the new fashion amongst the rich & famous, but horses are still seen in town as well. The county has put a lot of money into improving the roads, but the biggest things they've put money towards arethe 10th World Games, a new worldwide event featuring the world's greatest athletes in competition, & the Lost Angel Airport, for the new but elite airfleet being constructed. Wind elven aeronaut Lacea Wynsome has recently become the first woman to fly solo from Belle Point to Evernorth on far Ailanea.

Meanwhile, the drought is leaving the savannah too dry. Flash fires threaten constantly. Furthermore, something is causing the earth to rumble. Disaster seems eminent, & all the newspapers are predicting the end of the world. The worst, however, is the rampant lycanthropy epidemic. A crackdown on unregistered, uncontrolled lycanthropes is in the works.

Other new devices that dominate the landscape include radios (the up to date Belle Point Police Department has installed them in their police vehicles). These devices have everyone in the nation connected & listening--when they're not out at the movies. Typewriters, machine guns, gas stations, fancy new photography equipment, & certain new political movements are also coming to the fore. In the midst of depression, a group known as the Modern Novan Socialists is gaining support. Across town, their counterparts, the National Social Agenda, are drumming up trouble.

Other recent news reveals that reform politician Caelron Crushing was killed in a bomb blast that levelled his uptown home. Connections to his allegastions of corruption on the police force & in city hall are clear to the public eye, but not solid enough for the courts. Investigations continue, but the law's eyes are on one of the powerful crime families in the city.

In literature news, the rampant poverty, pollution, & crime in Belle Point has inspired a series of dark, dingy noir novels & yellow jounralistic attempts at mudraking. So far, no reforms have come as a result of these stories.

Parts of town include Uptown (think Beverly Hills), Main Avenue (where the movie studios are), Riverside (not by any river; a shopping district), Suncoast (the exclusive beachside estates), Bankerton (where the new reservoir is; once a poor quarter), Lion's Gate (once a rich quarter, now a slums), Welmington (middle class neighborhood), West Belle Point (a den of vice & corruption), Little Tenzanai (think Chinatown), Little Iello (think Little Italy), Old Rourke (the oldest section of town; historical; where the mayor lives), La Chinasio (a redneck suburban nightmare), La Bella (the worst slum in the city), El Dimeo (a middle class suburb), Akazad Alley (dwarven sector), Burzene Street (gnomish sector), the Point (the rest of the beaches & docks), the Wall (a long row of thick walls infested with squatters, separates Main Avenue from the rest of the city), the Farmer's Market (a massive market place), El Arbol Park (an artifical forest in the midst of the city), Winchester (the industrial region; massive), Gravitas (the university & temple area), & Union Square (the giant central railroad & public transit station).
