Marons slip out from the Hells or Nightmare to find sleeping mortals. They crawl up quietly onto their chests and fill their minds with nightmares. Much like boggarts, bugbears, and other beings of Nightmare Incarnate, they exist to cause terror, but these are the commanders of those lesser beings. If no mortal is found, they will resort to attacking animals, especially, horses or even trees and other plants. They never kill their victims, simply drive them mad. The only physical side effect known is the twisting of the hair seen in victims when they awaken.

They only have powers at night, but they can take souls at the middle point of any person's sleep if they have sufficiently damaged that person's mind. They can glamour themselves into other forms if need be, usually either a beautiful person or an animal.

Once they become strong enough, they can grow to gigantic size and terrorize whole countrysides. Their visage in this form can turn weak people to stone, leaving behind a series of terrifying monoliths.

Marons dwell in the Hells until summoned or let loose, where upon they glut themselves in the mortal realm until sent back. In the Hells, they serve as the rulers of the fearful and the Scarecrow Divine's damned.
