Backstory

Daughter of Aurelia Lucent, Sainte of Love, and Xanar, Nightmare Incarnate, Marilyna Isral was partially shaped by the faerie Avery Colzayre whilst in the womb. She was raised by her grandmother Valara Lucent and the King of Dragons, and growing up, she learned from legends. Eventually, she left the shell of the Dragon's Den and saw the world, meeting her namesake, Empress Marilyna, and learning all about her mother from those who knew her, and about the man her mother loved.

At the age of 30, her membranous wings opened. Like those of a fly, but the colors of a thousand sunsets, they dazzle as well as allow her flight.

She also met the forces of Nightmare, and she learned of the safe havens the world had for her. For years, she would duck into Summer God temples for safety when the forces of Nightmare appeared, until one day, none was nearby. She turned, and using all she had learned growing up, she fought.

And there, she found her true calling, when the forces that made her fear turned and fled in terror. She realized she was more than capable of standing up for herself. She called upon strengths few could rival, and she set about learning of her enemy. In doing so, she learned about the fears all have in the world, and she went back to her friend and namesake Marilyna Firesong. She offered the Empress her Service in exchange for more resources in fighting fears, and Marilyna introduced her to the (by then aged) Lucilla Toutant, who showed her the Night Watch.

And Marilyna Isral became She Who Guards the Night, the Night Watch, That Which Fear Fears. She forged an even more powerful Night Watch than what the Empress and Lucilla had done. She recruited those who would protect the weak and frail, men or women, from those who stalked the night. And she staved off Nightmare's best without much trouble.

Her constant companion is a small but powerful gargoyle named Greipur, and her current main residence is in the capital of Arunel, the city with the most potent church of Nightmare in the world.
