| Esoterica | Leannan ead are beings of envy resonance, thorn energy, and msawhat. They keep some of the powers they had in life, though corrupted, distrorted, and weakened (6-9). They can learn some new arts in undeath, though this is not common. Some powers they might master include other negative emotional resonances, sin, vile energy, imperium, uafas, cacophony, desperation, some forms of aether (especially greenlight), Damaskian powers, spirits, kor, yahas, poioumenon, and mystery. |
| Special Powers | Leannan ead cause unease in those who are near them. They have powerful empathic senses and can feed off the emotional resonance they sense, especially love or hatred. If they have consumed enough love, they can glamour themselves to be attractive. They can control wiedergangers. Their gaze can paralyze victims. If they sleep with or sexually assault someone, it will damage the victim's soul. |
| Damnation | The murder they committed out of jealous rage can determine some of their power in undeath. The death of a spouse or long-term committed partner will give them the power to inflict envy on sincere lovers. The death of a romantic but unmarried or shorter term partner will give them the power to make thorns grow in the skin of those they touch. The death of multiple lovers give them the power to use doppelganger-esque consuming power. The death of a casual sexual partner gives them the power to have seductive powers over their chosen kind of victim. And so on. |
| Necromancy | To create a leannan ead, a user of msawhat, envy resonance, and/or thorn energy (best if all three) must either find someone who has killed their partner in a jealous rage or manipulate this into happening (socially or supernaturally, though the former is more potent). Then one must perform a ritual (16) wherein they kill the jealous lover with a rose thorn through the heart. To control a leannan ead, one must capture their physical heart or the heart of their dead lover. To summon one, one must invoke their name before a mirror while spilling one's own blood onto the mirror. To capture on and draw their power, one must sleep with the leannan ead without ever opening one's eyes, then kiss them until their voice is drawn out. |
| Sending | An act of genuine love for a leannan ead will send them. Otherwise, they can be destroyed by fire. |
| Weaknesses | Love resonance and dumaqu can destroy them, but any heavenly essence, qi, or the gates can send them. |
| Behavior | Leannan ead seek out mortals to feed off of and seduce. Those they seduce are usually killed afteward. |
| Dominion Culture | In the Fellwood Dominion, leannan ead are part of the commoner class. They are average citizens of the Dominion, rising up when called to service but otherwise dwelling mostly unfettered. |
| Other Dominions | Leannan ead are common throughout Dominions except for Qhanuum. In the Srisian Dominion, their gaze is stronger. In Raesian, their control over wiedergangers is expanded to shamblers as well. In Agikaani, their feeding powers are stronger, and in Kaanian, their bite is abortifacient. In Dun, their bite is poisonous. In Godless, they gain power from feeding off of agape resonance. In Campionese, their emotional consumption permanently steals that emotion from the victim, and in Wapek, they trade empathic sense for heat sense. In Durosian, despair is more potent than love or hate. In Pandemonian, their glamour is less stable but more potent. |
| Mortal Interactions | Mortals hear of leannan ead through old tales of jealous violence, and when one is somewhere nearby, mortals often mistake them for living seducers until it's too late. |
| Afterlife | Redemption is difficult but not impossible for a leannan ead. An act of true love can redeem them, or very significant love resonance powers. Most spend millennia in the in-between before going on to the Hells, Evernight, or the Grey Lands. |
