Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, lapis dragons grow to be wingless but flying serpents with three claws instead of two or four.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Lapis dragons absorb Foundation in vast quantities. Hegnh, dumaqu, radiance, and the Law are all very common, as is qi and nommic energy. Heavenly light is not unheard of. Divine energies are common. White tiger aether, earthpower, fundamental aether, Damaskian power, poioumenon, yahas, ethereal energy, mana, gebvel, flesh, and symbolism are all frequent. Unholy powers, especially rending, are impossible. Creativity resonance is very common, as is inspiration and love.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Foundation ray breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to concussive force
  • Level 3: Immunity to deafness
  • Level 4: Immunity to acids
  • Level 5: Scale grants bearer crafting skills
  • Level 6: Impenetrable wall
  • Level 7: Duplicate object, once per year
  • Level 8: Rectify minor wrong
  • Level 9: Flaw sense
  • Level 10: Create major object
  • Level 11: Summon chukwa
  • Level 12: Commune with world

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include create moderate object, shape matter, sense rending, and healing.

Alternate Forms Lapis dragons sometimes take the form of a shemir.
Weaknesses Rending power is especially harmful to them.
Subspecies Genesis dragons are dragons who absorbed more Foundation than usual. They are connected to Mother Shem intimately and shape the world around them as they move and breath. Their breath weapons are a Foundational mist that alters reality.
Culture Lapis dragons live in the highest mountains in the world, where they live in small communities. They lay eggs on the highest peaks, and the whole community helps to raise the young. The young learn to respect and protect the world, and to empower others with works of wonder. At maturity, they are sent out to spread their works for a millennium, and during this time, they are known as kren-aleph. When they return, they become respected members of the community, bringing back items for the hoard and followers to serve the community--and often, a mate. When they reach old age, they retire to a monastic life in a secluded part of the mountains until they pass and become one with the world.
