| Description | Kvarczena are female-assigned human-like beings with three eyes (all green), pitch black skin that glimmers with bright stars, and hair like crystalline starlight. |
| Procreation | Like all mesecina, kvarczena are able to bear children but must be inseminated by beings from other species. They always produce other kvarczena. |
| Esoterica | Kvarczena are beings of astral and lunar aether and ancestral memory. They are able users of the arts of these three powers. They also learn arts of solar aether, flux, currents aether, greenlight aether, bestial aether, white tiger aether, earthpower aether, brumal aether, rubedian aether, viridian aether, fundamental aether, possibility, complexity, psionic energy, entropy, euphony, cacophony, self-denial, void, mana, vonzot, qi, lhair, Long Path, Foundation, dumaqu, emotional resonances, Damaskian powers, mystery, the gates, soul energy, poioumenon, fate, doom, symbolism, kor, yahas, and spirits. |
| Special Powers | The skin of kvarczena absorbs astral aether, making them stronger, but only when exposed to starlight. They have the ability to control any being with astral aether in it with their singing, though some are strong enough to resist. Every 100 years, kvarczena can commune with greater cosmic elementals (constellation logos) and wield some of their power. |
| Eye Powers | The left eye of a kvarczena can see electromagnetic radiation. The right eye can see in pitch darkness. The upper eye can see the distant reaches of the cosmos. When all three eyes are closed, the kvarczena can project their image and consciousness anywhere on the Green Moon on a starry night. |
| Weaknesses | Brown aether will harm them. Being lost causes significant mental trauma to a kvarczena. |
| Sisterhood | Kvarczena in groups of three or more can bond and amplify their visual powers. With other mesecina, they can exchange visual powers when bonded to groups of three or more. With other adelfoi, they can bond to share other powers. |
| National Culture | Kvarczena live in small village communities in open-air clearings amidst the forested mountains of the Green Mountain. These communities are led by elders who are the most powerful at astral aetherial arts and have explored the cosmos the most. These elders, called dvezdanabuduvac, gain their wisdom from mulltipe communions with cosmic elementals and use this to guide the community. Children are raised by their families, mostly their birth parent and their siblings. They must go on vision-quests through the cosmos every six years, with their 24th year being their ascent into adulthood. These quests guide them, showing them the role they must take in the community, or if they must seek another community. The most common roles are gatherers, hunters, warriors, explorers, weavers, potters, smiths, scientists, mystics, healers, and teachers. Every community has a group of teachers who gather all the children and any interested adults every three days to teach various subjects. These teachers are revered in the community, second only to the dvezdanabuducac. They often vision-quest for new lessons. The warriors specialize in astral aether-imbued staves that can emit blasts of the energy, archery with explosive arrows, and special ropes which have their own gravitational fields. The most elite of these warriors, called jazedvezda, are also part of the dvezdanabuduvac. Scientists, mystics, and healers are all known for being able users of esoteric arts and many of them graduate to the dvezdanabuduvac. Explorers explore via astral projection. These are the most elite common esotericists in the communities. Kvarczena send a group of community members on a pilgrimage every millennium, using special vessels capable of spaceflight, imbued with incredible powers. They travel vast distances over the course of the millennium (the time shift caused by relativity helps) to a star that is special to the village. They bring back pure astral energy. Kvarczena are traders. They interact openly with other nations. They gather fruits, create special hides from local fauna, and trade their astral weaponry for necessities and luxuries. The whole community comes together for this, and those trades must benefit the whole community at the behest of the dvezdanabuduvac. |
| Religion | Most kvarczena worship the Father of the Stars, whom they believe fashioned them in the image of his daughter, the Angel Star. They worship Him but believe her to be their first ancestor. |
| Outside View | Distant civilizations trade with the millennial travelers among the kvarczena and know them as wise and fair. Those on Shem know them as "star women" who sometimes trade with powerful esotericists. Other lunar nations view them as mostly friendly traders with a reputation for being very dangerous to cross. |
