| Special Powers | Kodamas have a hive mind. Each grove has its own identity, which all members of the grove share, but each member of the grove still retains some independence. They can know what each other think and do at will, but don't have to. If a grove member dies, the kodama still lives as part of a larger grove. Only if the whole grove is wiped out is the kodama actually dead. Kodamas can reflect sounds made within their groves, and their cries of anguish, when heard from a distance, sound like trees falling. They are very protective of their bonded trees, and they can curse someone (usually with bad luck) if the tree is cut down. They can take the form of beasts, their normal human-like forms, of bright lights, or of their bonded tree. Their bonded tree looks like a normal tree, but if cut, it will bleed if the kodama is hiding within it. If a kodama's tree is lost, there is an ancient festival that can be performed by non-kodamas to guide the kodama to a new tree. Kodamas are very nimble. |
| Weaknesses | Disconnection from the grove terrifies and weakens a kodama. They are bonded to their trees and cannot survive without them. |
| Culture | Kodamas live in their groves and protect them. They mark their groves with rope, and they often form bonds with locals in their woods. They prefer forested mountains and sugi trees, but there are kodamas for every kind of tree. Kodamas have seasonal festivals that they observe for their groves, and these are all potent bindings of seasonal aether to protect their trees. |
