| Description | Young kludde are called kleure. They appear to be short, shrub-like creatures. At the age of 20 or so, they go through a special rite that brings them into adulthood, at which time they become mature kludde. Mature kludde appear to be black-skinned, black-furred animalistic humanoids with bat wings. Every individual kludde has features of at least three of the following at any given time: dog, cat, horse, frog, snake, bat, raven, or crow. They stand about 3' to 5'. If a kludde walks in front of a mirror, their appearance will change, shifting to another three animal features from the list. |
| Procreation | Between species of goblin, it follows the mother. Half-goblins are rare but possible in special circumstances, though usually supernatural intervention is required. If a goblin sires a child on a non-goblin and non-humanoid, that child will be more goblin than not. |
| Esoterica | All goblins are beings of resonance. Kludde are beings of pensiveness resonance, and this empowers them, converting to lunar aether. They gain strength from it. They are capable of using almost any esoteric art except dumaqu and msawhat. The most common powers are faith, arnum, damaskian power, infernum, gebvel, aether (especially brumal, currents, and white tiger), blood and flesh ordinal powers, spirits, and symbolism. |
| Special Powers | Kleures are not as strong or fast as their adult counterparts, and they do not have wings to fly. They are resistant to cold and can survive in light atmosphere. At the Rite of the Full Moon, kleures enter adulthood enter into a six month growth spurt. Adult kluddes live without much air pressure or oxygen, and they are immune to cold. They cannot survive under heavier atmospheres, though, and without supernatural aides or with water-based support, they will be crushed to death (including on Shem). When the moon is facing away from Shem, kluddes can become invisible for a minute or so (about four times per day) and change their size to be a few feet taller or shorter with proportionate weight changes. When it faces Shem, they are stuck in whatever shape they were in and become visible. If a kludde does go to Shem, they can survive by covering themselves in water. If they submerge in high tides, they will regain their strength entirely for a day. On the moons, kluddes gain strength from reflection and deep thought and concentration. Pensiveness gives them strength and shapeshifting powers, as it turns into lunar aether within them. If they are alone, they can become too lost in thought and become images instead of physical beings. Powerful kluddes mystics can avoid this by releasing lunar aether through breathing techniques. Kluddes have affinity for lunar eagles and wolves (both lunar wolves and grey wolves on Shem). |
| Weaknesses | Dumaqu and msawhat can harm them. |
| Rite | The Rite of the Full Moon is when kleures enter adulthood and become mature kluddes. In this rite, they go into a meditative state and enter a vision-quest. If they become lost, they will fade into an image and eventually vanish. If they find their way, which requires finding another kleure on the journey to help them see themselves for who they are, which makes their bodies change from the shrub-like form to an animal-like one. |
| Horde | The Third Cycle Clan is the horde of the kludde. They believe that life has three cycles, each cycle a representation of birth, life, and death, repeated three times--in other words, everyone is born three times, lives three times, and dies three times. How this manifests and how it is interpreted varies by tribe, but each tribe believes that the kludde horde has a duty to serve the Third Cycle, meaning that they must keep the world from dying permanently before its third iteration. The mystics have intricate legends and stories about this. When kludde are alone, they can easily become lost in thought and fade away, so they try to stick together as much as possible. In their tribes, this just means prevention of fading, but in large numbers, it amplifies their lunar aether and pensiveness resonance to a point where they collectively become more powerful. They can remain invisible for longer, change shapes and turn invisible even when the moon faces Shem, and gain physical strength. |
| Culture | family structrure, government, tribes, war, animals, sports, hunts, food, myths, religion, occupations Kluddes are trappers, warriors, mystics, wolf-handlers, eaglers (as opposed to falconers), and sages. They live in tribes in the lunar mountains and study the stars, Shem, the movements of the moons, and the light. They are very territorial. They are led by elder sages, faithful, and mystics. Each tribe has a council, and every tribe is independent unless a powerful leader unites them. Because they are territorial, they also command the landscape of their territories, shaping them and designing the roads, paths, and even the mountains themselves in extreme cases. Sometimes, they use this to trap outsiders who enter their territory, intentionally designing the paths to confuse. Some tribes will kill outsiders and some will demand payment, offer services such as rides or food. This is a common way tribes trade with outsiders. Their trappers do this when the trapping season is low, especially. Their hunters and warriors take advantage of the lunar atmosphere and gravity to develop a special style wherein they leap upon the backs of targets and crush them, using aetherial tricks to do so. Kleures are raised by three parents--the two biological and either an aunt, uncle, or grandparent, usually--each one taking turns at caretaking. The child is trained in the family's three main crafts until within a few years of the Rite of the Full Moon. A few years before their rite, they begin preparing for the rite by studying under a sage, faithful, or mystic in the tribe, one outside of their family. This involves long trips with just their mentor out into the wilderness to meditate. When they are ready, they are guided through the Rite with two other members of the tribe (if no others are ready, they will travel to other tribes to find kleures to do the Rite with). Once a kleure is an adult, a kludde, they begin their life working their primary craft, which they have been trained in from birth, or they switch to a new craft based on their Rite (though this is rare). Courtship revolves around the three festivals kludde hold each year, and usually starts before the Rite. No kludde may get married before their Rite, however. |
