Description Kalas are anthropomorphic culpeos, a sort of canine that is somewhat vulpine in appearance, though larger. Kalals stand about 5' tall. They have reddish and grey fur on their bodies, with white chins, black tips on their bushy tails, a subtle black stripe down their backs, and red on their arms and legs. They have a grizzled appearance to them.
Procreation Follows the mother.
Magic One in five million have heart or soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible. Void is possible. Faith is not uncommon.
Special Powers Kalals have sharp noses and good endurance. They are decent hunters and very hard workers. They are fiercely loyal.
Weaknesses Hood magic or faith can hurt them.
Culture Kalals live in small, moderately nomadic families in Western Mati. Their society rewards hard work and loyalty above all other virtues. Kalals will defend their families and friends even in the face of overwhelming evidence of their flaws. Kalals believe that hard work reaps its own reward to the extent that praising their work will upset them. Within their society, no one talks about one's work. Instead, the rewards come at yearly ceremonies where members of the family are promoted, demoted, or left to continue their work. There is no shame in being left to continue one's work--it means one is doing well in it. Promotion can be good or bad, as can demotion, but being left to continue one's work is the highest honor.
