Backstory:
Jeffrey, the son of a shoemaker, was raised in a small village largely secluded from the rest of the world, though some travelers came through on occasion. Their one major outside influence were the roving bands of goblin raiders that lived nearby. From growing up with the constant threat of goblin violence, Jeffrey developed a xenophobic outlook. His natural intelligence and able body drew him to the attention of the old village meteoromagus, who took him on as an apprentice. He taught the boy what he knew of spellcutting and the powers of magic over nature. Jeffrey learned eagerly, but after so many years under the same master, he became restless. He set out one night with his meager belongings and knowledge and set out into the world to prove himself a great and powerful mage.
