| Description | Jarorok appear to be female-assigned humans about 5'4" tall on average, usually with muscular bodies. They have short, badger-like tails; sharp claws; and a third eye in their foreheads. They usually have pale white skin and blonde hair. |
| Procreation | Jarorok reproduce with metahumans, spirit folk, insinsi, and some inmortal nations to produce more jarorok. |
| Esoterica | Jarorok are beings of imperium, b'qar, and ancestral memory. They also sometimes use nzwara murazvo, blood energy, d'qiarsea, spirit energy, mystery, true shadow, tyvka vlast, kakraohy, mansam, menab'e, kor, mijjit, banaru, gemtkhereg, euergasia, hvittdogg, gebvel, Raesian energy, prasinofos, hasken fure, thorn energy, humors, lahab al'qalb, feirua, imperium, arnum, infernum, cacophony, bailaohu jinghua, uafas, and momentum. |
| Special Powers | A jaror can take the form of a bull if they drink the blood of the same. |
| Hunting Powers | All jarorok can sense their targets with their third eye, seeing movement, heat, and weakness. They also have a sharper sense of sight, and while they are hunting (for at least an hour), they have a major bonus to strength. If they stand still for half an hour, they will fade mostly from vision. |
| Weaknesses | Liberation power will harm them. |
| Culture | Thousands of years ago, the jarorok sought to dominate and control all of the noverek nations. The other nations united and repulsed them, driving them away. They fled north, settling in what is now eastern Vesturia, in the deep boreal forests there. Even at this time, there were multiple tribes among the jarorok, but over time, one came to dominate, the Bika [Bull] tribe. Though not a traditional predator, the bull became their symbol because in their view, the bull dominated the herd, and they were dominating their own herds (slaves). They captured many members of other nover nations, and these were their slaves even as they were driven north. In current times, they enslave any they can capture. They are part of the Vesturian ruling class, but they consider themselves superior even to the d'yavol'skiy, though this does not reflect the political or economic realities. Though they are part of the Vesturian ruling class and consider themselves Vesturian nobility, they still retain their own internal national hierarchy, with the herceg (duke) being the leader of their nation. The herceg controls the slave markets that make the jarorok so rich in Vesturia, and in order to get permission to hunt and trade slaves, a jaror must bow to the herceg. Jarorok replaced hunting in their culture with slaving. To them, the only worthy prey are other mortals. In place of the old tribal structures, they have noble houses that keep slave patrols called elkapók (sing. elkapó). Elkapók rove out into the surrounding countries or into poor communities and capture any person of a nation acceptable to enslave in Vesturia. They sometimes capture those unacceptable to enslave in Vesturia and sell in secret to Krev, Uraymean, or Amolian slavers, but this is kept hush hush. As noble families, the jarorok are a warrior caste in Vesturia who are regarded by other Vesturian nobles as a useful but heretical (as they do not worship the Serpent Goddess) nation. Some jaror families have fallen into poverty or disgrace within Vesturia and have ended up as slaves, serfs, or workers, and these are even enslaved by the other jarorok. Jaror children are raised by servants or their immediate families. They are taught from a young age that weakness is a personal failing, that they must be great hunters of other mortals, and that their nation is a superior one. By the time they are old enough to carry a gun, net, or spear, they are trained to hunt slaves. Traditional hunting is also part of their training, but only insofar as it is useful to the family trade of slaving. They have no coming-of-age rituals anymore, but instead assimilate into Vesturian society and their schools and rituals. They do, however, have a ritual of determination similar to that of other nover nations that occurs when they are to inherit the family estates. Any of the daughters of the family who might inherit are left naked out in the cold Vesturian night for seven hours, and the one who does not fall ill, asleep, or otherwise weaken or falter is the heir. If more than one succeeds, they split the estates. This leads sometimes to murder in the night. Each family has its own territory in which they hunt slaves, always outside their estates, and usually outside Vesturia. They make raids into border towns, keep special cages, chains, and collars, and take them back to the major markets of eastern Vesturia. Every year, they have two festivals: the herceg's birthday, which is a celebration of their history and a major feast for all noble families (and a good time for politicking), and pihenőnap, a day of rest. On this latter day, slaves are forced to entertain the families by fighting each other. The winner of these fights is offered freedom, and thus, the slaves often fight to the death for the prize. In some families, they do give the slave freedom, but in many, they simply secretly sell the winner away to a distant noble. They have very bloody, martial taste in arts and crafts. Among them, the only non-slave-hunting role that is honored is that of the fehérkovács, or whitesmith, who makes their schwerstrum chains and cages. Their music is dolorous and menacing. |
| Prey | Instead of having symbolic prey based on their first hunts, each family has a preferred kind of slave they deal in. Some deal in slaves known for their strength, others for sexual slavery, others for specialized slaves like those with special powers, and still others for breeding slaves. |
| Sisterhood | As children of Shefere, jarorok have a kinship with al'ulkhua and valkyries that makes them instantly recognizable to one another. They have abandoned respect for these other species, however, and view them as special targets for enslaving. |
| Religion | Jarorok loathe the original deities worshiped by other noverek. They worship Lánckészítő, the Chain-Maker, the one who gave them power over schwerstrum and their superiority to all other nations and races. Because they dwell in Vesturia, many families also engage in worship of the Serpent Mother, but this is usually just for show. Every family has a third daughter or second cousin or some lesser ranked member who is a priest of Lanckeszito and leads various rituals each month, usually the sacrifice of a slave or a ritual of flagellation or disfigurement. It is an uncomplicated and brutal religion. |
| Gender | Other than terms for familial relationships (mother, daughter, aunt), jarorok use masculine terms for their titles, roles, etc. They view themselves as superior women to women of other nations, races, and species. Hence, they call their leader the duke and not duchess, and their religious leaders are priests instead of priestesses. All jarorok are assigned female at birth, and any deviation from this is punished cruelly. They never marry, but they keep many male slaves around to breed with, often choosing them for qualities they wish their daughters to possess (strength, endurance, etc.). In this way, they ensure they keep their estates among their own nation. |
| Military | Each jaror family keeps a small force of soldiers and guards of other nations/species led by lower-ranking members of the family. These also make up the slaving bands' rank-and-file. Some jarorok do end up serving in the Vesturian military, but this is usually just to make contacts or gain prestige. |
| Other Nations | The jarorok hate the other nover nations. They cherish getting to enslave them. |
| Outside View | As part of the Vesturian ruling nations, as a culture focused on enslaving others, the jarorok are feared and hated by many. Other Vesturian ruling nations view them as aberrations and heretics, but useful ones. |
