- Avery knocks on Jack's door at some point before either one sleeps.
- Jack answers, looking a little better but still old.
Avery "Jack, I...I need to talk to you."
Jack "Come on in."
- Avery does.
- Jack stands aside and lets Avery in.
- Jack shuts the door and gestures to a seat.
- Avery hesitates, then just stays standing. "Listen, about tomorrow..."
- Jack waits.
Avery "I...Connell asked me to play with his band..."
Jack "As in not with us?"
- Avery nods. "And...I made a deal with him a few days back, to get my father's sword back. I owe him a favor."
Jack "You can't play against us. We need you."
- Avery looks down. "I know, I just...if he calls it in...I just need to know that I can still go with you, if-.../when/ you win."
Jack "I don't know! That may not be up to us"
- Avery sighs. "I'll try, Jack. I'll see him tomorrow at dawn."
Jack "If he calls it in, I swear to gods I will do somethin' underhanded to keep you with us!"
Jack "And maybe punish him too! This is not alright!"
Jack "He should know better than to ask!"
- Avery just looks down, feeling worse about this than he had when he got there.
- Jack sighs. "Avery, you're one of us, and he's gonna be /playin' against us!/"
Jack "He doesn't want the song to save the the gods!"
Avery "How do you know?"
- Avery looks up, stung. "He's a good man, Jack."
Jack strike my last sentence. I thought we knew that.
Jack in that case, "We don't even know what he wants the song for!"
Avery "He's a good man, Jack..."
Jack "It doesn't matter! WE have a responsibility!"
- Avery just nods. "I know. I'll...I'll tell him no."
Jack "We gotta focus..."
Avery "Yeah." he turns to go. "I should...I need some sleep."
Jack "Yeah...me too..."
Avery "Night, Jack." he heads out.
