| Description | Water-logged corpses. |
| Corruption | Those who drown at sea with corruption in their bodies or souls become iannics. |
| Esoterica | Iannic-ann-od are are beings of msawhat and brown aether. They do not retain powers they had in life, nor do they learn new powers in undeath. |
| Special Powers | Iannic-ann-od cause unease in those who hear their cries of "iou iou." If someone responds to this cry, the iannic will move halfway to the crier. A second time will see it leap half the distance again. If someone repeats the call a third time, the iannic will appear behind them and break their neck. Their foul stench (their own rot and that of fish and crustaceans) makes anyone who smells them vomit. |
| Necromancy | A user or msawhat or brown aether can create an iannic-ann-od by corrupting the waters around the drowned body with either energy (7). To control one, one must capture some of the fouled water it swims in and keep it in a clean jar. To summon one, repeat its cries thrice and stop it from breaking one's neck. To capture one and draw its power, the user must wield a piece of the sunken vessel or the heart of the iannic. |
| Sending | Trapping an iannic on dry land for more than three hours will cause them to become dry husks. |
| Weaknesses | Light of purification is especially effective, but qi, the gates, and all heavenly essences can send them. |
| Behavior | Iannic-ann-od lurk in the waters near the coast, crying out "iou! iou!" until someone repeats the cry. |
| Dominion Culture | An iannic-ann-od are part of the commoner class of the Dun Dominion, dwelling in the seas near koni and other powerful undead, luring in wanderers, befouling the waters, and destroying lives. |
| Other Dominions | Other Dominions include them as part of their commoner class, though they do not usually have other powers based on it. They are especially common in the Pandemonian and Wapek Dominions, where they make up large parts of the coastal commoners. |
| Mortal Interactions | Mortals speak of iannic-ann-od as mysterious noises along the coasts, and most living near them are warned not to repeat their cries. |
| Afterlife | Many iannics can achieve redemption if sent through heavenly essence or qi, though they remain in the in-between for a few centuries first. Most end up in the Grey Lands, Catacombs, or Hells. |
