| Description | Hivati appear to be slightly anthropomorphized bees. They have long, hairy proboscises, bulbous bodies, and 2 pairs of wings. Their antennae are segmented (12 female, 13 male). They have six legs (4 legs, 2 arms). They are fuzzy and coloration tends to be yellow with black bands, but orange, black, grey, and amber colors are possible. They have compound eyes and ocelli, and they stand about 4' tall, except the bumble-variety, which stand about 6' tall. They have stingers. Some have long hair, some short, but all are furry. When they fly, their legs are not visible. |
| Procreation | Follows the mother. |
| Magic | One in five million have heart or soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible. Void is possible. Faith is not uncommon. |
| Special Powers | Hivati, like regular bees, make honey in hives. Their honey, called true honey, is highly valued for its remarkable taste. Hivati are strong and fast, flying like helicopters. Their stingers are mildly toxic, and unlike normal bees, no hivati will lose its sting when it is used. They have an electrostatic charge that helps them carry things. Hivati are noted for their eloquence, their farming skills, and their buzzing. They use pheromones for communication, especially for raising alarms. They have minor oracular skills, their abilities to hear the voices of shades, and their majesty. |
| Weaknesses | Famine magic or faith can harm them. |
| Culture | Hivati often live in massive hive colonies, which last ten years each, at which time they split up into smaller colonies. They have a matriarchal society, with a ruling hive queen and her daughters and sisters, who divide up the labor amongst themselves and their male consorts. The rare solitary breeds steal the nests of others and have larger ocelli for seeing at night. In hives, only the queen is fertile, but with solitary sorts, all females are fertile. There are known killer breeds which are vicious and violent, territorial and migratory, ground-dwellers and finicky. |
